Priority One at Landon
Join Us at May 3 DCSB Meeting
The disagreement about Priority One at Landon is at the forefront of today's local news. The issue of Landon's Priority One process is being loudly challenged by several elementary gifted magnet schools from other areas of the city. This could mean fewer spots at Landon for Hendricks applicants unless we speak up to the school board now! A group of concerned parents/guardians are planning a visit to the monthly School Board meeting on May 3. Please contact Mark or Alicia MacLean to express your interest in joining this cause.

Family Fun Day - May 21
Help Friends of Hendricks Raise Funds for Our School
As a supporter of Hendricks Avenue Elementary, we invite you to join us for a Family Fun Day on Friday, May 21 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. You can wear your tennis shoes and walk a lap, or bring a lawn chair and relax, enjoying the music and watch the fun. The day will include a Walk-a-Thon, relays, contests and barbeque. Information went home in student folders the last week of April.
Everyone is encouraged to participate. The quality of education that is provided to the children of our school is of utmost importance to everyone at Hendricks Avenue Elementary. This year we are faced with unprecedented potential cuts in educational funding at the state level which will result in a reduction in needed technology upgrades, materials and supplies that are critical to providing the best educational experience possible for students.

End-of-the-Year Reading Extravaganza
Help Hendricks Teachers Put on a Great Event
Hendricks teachers are busy planning the June 6th all day, end-of-the-year Reading Celebration. Along with a focus on books, reading and story telling, there will be lots of music, games and other activities including a blow-up obstacle course!
Parent volunteers are needed to make popcorn as well as assist outside with games and activities. Please look for an informational and volunteer flyer in student folders and consider giving your time to help celebrate Hendricks students! For more information, contact Vicki Van Gundy. |
YoBe Supports Hendricks
Local Business Helps out with FCAT
The recently opened YoBe on St Johns Avenue in Avondale generously donated free coupons to all the kids in Ms. Patsy's class to honor and congratulate them on working hard on the FCATs.
The coupons were a part of Missy's V's class' efforts to support their buddies in Ms. Patsy's class. If you're over that way and are looking for a treat, it would be nice to reciprocate by supporting their business.

Hendricks Has Talent!
Recap: Carnival Talent Show
The annual carnival talent show showcased an abundance of talent right here at Hendricks Avenue. We had singers, dancers and players of instruments, a magician, hoola hoopers and actors! It was a terriffic show! Even more impressive was how well these young performers handled a less than perfect sound system until the Southside Baptist Church brought in a much better sound. Thank you to Mr. Morrell and Mr Fluharty for bringing over the church's speakers!! Can't wait to see what next year's acts will be!!

E-Ea gles Tips
FMAN Produced Lots of Green Tips
Did you know you can check out a JEA Energy Audit backpack from the public libraries and do your own home audit? Cool tools and information are free and can save money on your electric bill. Check 'em out!!
Students, parents and small business: Don't forget to make paper deposits (magazines, newspapers, etc.) to our PaperRetriever (green and yellow) bin on the San Jose Blvd. side of the school. Let's keep filling it up! The more we deposit, the more money our school receives.

At Hendricks Avenue Elementary School, students receive more than the
standard education that our district's funds can provide. The school's
standard of excellence is made possible not only by its dedicated
teachers and staff but through the efforts of you and your HAEPTA.

Hendricks Avenue Elementary Parent Teacher Association
