Hendricks Read-a-thon & Pajama Day Exciting Plans for the Last Day Before the Winter Break How often can kids wear the same clothes they slept in to school the next day? Friday, December 17 is one day all the students look forward to - pajama day! The last day of school before the winter break is dedicated to reading and we make it cozy and comfortable by inviting students to wear their appropriate pajamas to school. Please be mindful not to wear anything revealing and remember, no open-back slippers. Sneakers are the best bet.
The feature film The Polar Express will be playing this day as well and each class will get the opportunity to see it. Each class will also enjoy hot cocoa and cookies courtesy of the HAEPTA.

Melody Makers Star on WTLV-12 Songs of the Season to Feature Hendricks Melody Makers Melody Makers had a blast at Family Night Supper - singing their version of The Ants Go Marching . . . to Family Night Supper to have some fun and so on . . . but their favorite performance was The More We Get Together/Born to be Wild medley. As the finale to the first session of Melody Makers, the performance will be showcased as part of WTLV-12's Songs of the Season on December 16 and 21 on the 5, 5:30 and 7 p.m. newscasts. A special Songs of the Season presentation featuring a pre-taped Melody Makers performance will air on Christmas. Registration for Melody Makers' next session will begin in late January. Stay tuned for more information. Not only will next session's participants perform at the school, they will be showcased at the school carnival in April.

Hendricks Rated a Five Star School One More Reason to Log Your Volunteer Hours This year, Hendricks was rated a five star school by the Florida Department of Education. This is the highest honor a school can receive in recognition of community participation. This rating is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary performance in family, school and community involvement.
In order to earn this recognition, a school must have earned a grade of "C" or above for the 2009-2010 school year and provide a portfolio to show that it has met the requirement of full engagement in these five areas: business partnerships, family involvement, volunteerism, student community service and school advisory councils.
Don't forget to log your volunteer hours in the white volunteer binder in the front office. No matter if you are baking cookies at home, chaperoning a field trip or volunteering for a special event, your hours are important. As you can see, HAE gets credit for each and every hour and they make Hendricks eligible for various other awards and grants.
