Alumni Highlight...

Joe Morgan, class of 1990

Joseph Scott Morgan became a death investigator with the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office in 1985. At the time of his hire, Joe was estimated to have been the youngest medicolegal death investigator in the country. He graduated from Delgado Community College in 1990 with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 1992 he accepted the position of Senior Investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office in Atlanta, Georgia, where he remained until retiring in 2005.

Joe continued his education and holds a Masters degree in Forensic Science as well as undergraduate degrees in Public Management (Biology minor) and Criminal Justice. Joe is now an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science at North Georgia College and State University. "For me, Delgado represents a place of mercy and second chances. I came from a broken home, which I left at 18.  When I showed up at Delgado's City Park Campus, I found a faculty that was willing to help me overcome obstacles. If it were not for my experiences at the College, there is a chance that I would have been left hopeless and adrift. Delgado made the difference for me and for that, I will be forever in the institution's debt."

Joe Morgan is the author of "Blood Beneath My Feet: The Journey of a Southern Death Investigator." This memoir is due out Spring of 2012 and is being published by Feral House Publications.
