Alumni Spotlight - Charles Talley
After receiving his Culinary Arts degree from Delgado in 1992, Chef Charles Talley worked a variety of positions from production manager to executive chef.Charles says "my Delgado degree greatly contributed to me being selected to serve as the executive chef to the Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Donald Rumsfeld". Charles has earned over a dozen competition medals including American Culinary Federation Gold. He is currently deployed in Afghanistan and serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Charles notes "I was the executive chef for the Office of the Secretary of Defense from 2000-2004. I worked for Secretary William Cohen for about two months and later was promoted to the executive chef position under the Honorable Donald Rumsfeld. With the exception of September 11, 2001, I enjoyed everyday at the Pentagon. I was not injured, but experienced the loss of two friends that day. I have planned luncheons, menus, reception and formal dinners for many world leaders. My experience at the Pentagon allowed me to cook for members of Congress/Senate weekly, Cabinet member such as Colin Powell, Condeleeza Rice and Vice President Chaney monthly. I have cooked for President George W. Bush five times. There was never a dull moment at the Pentagon and all fine-dining service was deemed to be at 4-5 star level." Charles has been active in the Army for 16 years and previously served in the Louisiana Army National Guard while at Delgado. His current rank is Chief Warrant Officer Three.
