Immune Boosting Soup

 

Ingredients  

1 small yellow onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, sliced
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
8 fresh shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and sliced
4 cups low-sodium mushroom, vegetable or chicken broth
1 1/2 cups julienned fresh kale
1 cup cubed butternut squash
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
6 thin slices astragalus root (optional)
Juice of 1 fresh lemon
1 teaspoon miso

 

Method

In a sauce pot over medium-high heat, saute onion and garlic in oil 3 minutes. Add turmeric and mushrooms. Saute 2 minutes. Add broth, kale, squash, ginger, cayenne and astragalus. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly, add lemon juice and miso (adding miso when still very hot will diminish its probiotic benefits). Cover and let sit 5 minutes before serving.

A.C.E.S + Zinc - An antioxidant combination that helps maintain the structure of mucous membranes and increases immune cell number and function. 1-2 capsules per day with food.

 

Probiotics - Consuming probiotic bacteria that are indigenous and helpful to the intestinal tract will aid in infection. 1 capsule, twice daily with food.

 

Oil of Oregano - A powerful anti-microbial supplement for combating infection. 1-5 drops under the tongue or in water or juice daily. 

 

Nin Jiom - For productive coughs the Chinese cough syrup Nin Jiom can be used as directed on the bottle for day and night-time relief of symptoms.

Guided Meditation Series

We have heard and read about the benefits of meditation.   We often say "one of these days I will take time to meditate, or I will learn how to meditate properly".  Now is the time...to breathe, de-stress and de-clutter our minds.

 

Come experience this 5 week session of gently guided visualized meditation facilitated by our resident Acupuncturist and Holistic Practitioner, Nicole Dunn. Surrounded by beautiful and serene music you will experience the benefits of meditation. During this session you will practice the benefits of deep breathing techniques, as well as, learn to calm your mind, find compassion for yourself and experience methods to center, ground and clear your non-beneficial energies.  Bring slippers and water for your comfort.
