Once a month Poplar Grove vounteer, Wayne Batten hosts "Grillin' in the Grove" at the
Farmers Market.  He fires up the gas grill and in no time, heavenly aromas are floating
throughout the market from the dishes he prepares with local foods from the day's market.
When Culinary Instructor Marilyn Lowers brought students from Cape Fear Community College
to the Poplar Grove Farmers Market on a field trip, they were challenged to use their new skills,
right on the spot.  Without skipping a beat, students were slicing, dicing, basting, grilling,
serving and, visitors were savoring the mouth watering results.  Using fresher-than-you-can-imagine
ingredients, the students scored an A+ for their delicious appetizers and entrees.  Without
advance knowledge or planning and using only local, in-season ingredients, this is one
talented class of super chefs and, they're coming from our own local college.
Go Cape Fear Culinary Students !
Future Chefs meet Four Star Chef !
After successfully meeting the Farmers Market Challenge, students wandered down to the
Cultural Arts Center where Chef Alexis Fouros' cooking class was in session. Chef Fouros offers
his expertise in a cooking "lesson and lunch" just about every Wednesday at Poplar Grove's
Farmers Market.  Cape Fear students saw first hand how a four-star New York Chef develops
heaven-sent flavor using fresh local ingredients and simple recipes.
