Dear Friends,

As we enter our third year of operation, Ubuntu Green would like to thank everyone who has supported our efforts to create healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities. In the past year, our organization saw tremendous growth as we moved from an all-volunteer organization to one that is supported by 3 staff members and a great team of interns and research associates.  We also continue to grow our Board of Directors and Advisory Council with outstanding individuals with proven track-records of community and government service.

In the past year, Ubuntu Green celebrated the 2nd Annual Green Oak Park! Event and enjoyed the support of many community partners and friends.  The event doubled its attendance to over 250 vendors, residents, and partners.  Next year, the Green Oak Park and South Sacramento! Event will reach even more residents and continue to promote energy efficiency, health food access, and empower youth to change their communities.

In 2010, Ubuntu Green launched three key programs including our Green Youth Leadership Team which is empowering youth to become environmental justice and healthy food access advocates.  The GYLT team participated in leadership camp this past summer at the Sierra Health Foundation's Grizzly Creek Ranch. As part of the Sacramento Youth Leadership Program, they led efforts to revitalize the Boys and Girls Club, Teichert Branch Community Garden. Our 300 Edible Home and Community Garden Campaign focuses on installing 300 edible gardens in the Sacramento area by 2013, focusing on low- to moderate-income families.  Finally, we launched our Healthy Land Use Engagement Project designed to engage and empower residents in the Sacramento Building Healthy Communities project area to advocate for improved transportation access, elimination of environmental health and justice conditions in their communities, and improved healthy food access.

However, all this great work cannot be done without the continued support of individuals and organizations like you!  As you enjoy your holidays and turn into the New Year, please take a moment to make a contribution to Ubuntu Green and enable us to continue to be a place where sustainable and equitable communities unite.

Our work could not be possible without the support of our many funders, sponsors, and partners.  We are especially thankful for the support of the California Endowment, the California Wellness Foundation, Sierra Health Foundation, Non-Profit Resource Center/First 5 Sacramento, Soil Born Farms, Sacramento Housing Alliance/Coalition on Regional Equity, Asian Resources Inc., U.C. Davis Center for Regional Change, California Capital FDC, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Home Depot, U.C. Davis Medical Center, WALKSacramento, Youth Development Network, Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, Stockton Resource Center, Greenwise Sacramento, Sacramento Mutual Housing, Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento, Sacramento Yard Farmer, the Verde Group, Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, Legal Services of Northern California, Alchemist CDS, Green Tech, Sacramento Habitat for Humanity, Consumes River College and many others.  Please see our website here for a full listing.

Thank you for your continued support.  Happy Holidays and an exciting New Year!
