Save Our Ride! Rally

Congress is currently considering legislation that will open up much needed funding for transit systems nationwide.  Advocates in Sacramento are joining with the TEA4America coalition to hold a rally to urge Congress to pass the We Need to Save Our Ride - Save Our Jobs - and Save Our Environment! legislation currently before Congress.  This bill would permanently change federal law to allow all transit systems to use some of the money they already receive for operating expenses.  Without this flexibility, Sacramento and other California cities may soon see even greater reductions in public transit services. The Transportation For America coalition is standing with allies to urge Senators Boxer and Feinstein to support transit operations funding at the federal level. Please join us for a rally at the Federal Building to let our leaders know that it's time to Save Our Ride!

The rally will be held Thursday, July 1 at noon at the Matsui Federal Building, 501 I Street in Sacramento.  Speakers to include: Rev. Jesse Jackson, (Rainbow PUSH Coalition), Constance Slider (CORE), James C. Little (Transit Workers Union), Warren S. George (Amalgamated Transit Union). For more information about the rally, call the ATU at 916-739-1627 or visit this website.

Greenwise Sacramento

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson earlier this year launched his Green Initiative, which has been officially named Greenwise Sacramento.  The initiative will spend the next several months developing a regional greening plan and establishing Sacramento as a nationwide leader in the green movement.  Ubuntu Green, President and CEO, Charles L. Mason, Jr. will be working on the core team that is focused on addressing buildings, land use and transportation issues.

The next Greenwise Sacramento meeting is July 20, 2010 at the Cal EPA at 2:00 p.m.
