In the woods this time of year we see White Wood Aster, Blue Wood Aster, Blue Stemmed Goldenrod and Zig-zag Goldenrod. We also see the berries of False Solomon's Seal, Starry Solomon's Seal, and Jack in the pulpit. In the fields are New York Aster, New England Aster, Small leaf Aster, Canada Goldenrod, Showy Goldenrod and stiff Goldenrod among others. There are many kinds of Asters and Goldenrods.
These plants are wonderful plants for pollinators. They attract butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects. They not only provide food and cover, but are the host plants for some of these important insects.
