Abundance Foundation's Briar Chapel 5k is here! Photovoltaic workshops & Send-A-Kid-to-Camp!
|
O' Abundant Ones,
These are quite exciting times. There is so much energy and change in the air; between the thriving, greening plant life, the baby animals scurrying everywhere we look, the Shakori Hills Grassroots Music Festival coming up this weekend (visit us near the Piedmont Biofuels' truck!), and well, EARTH DAY, it's hard to get a wink of shut-eye at night!
Just this week we've launched our Groupon Send-A-Kid-to-Camp fundraiser to help subsidize the cost of our Local Food & Renewable Energy Summer Camp for youth who may not be able to afford it otherwise.
We officially have 4 monthly sustaining donors who we like to call our Ambassadors of Abundance. Will you be the 5th? Read more below, and make your commitment here.
We've also been gearing up for our great Briar Chapel 5k THIS SATURDAY, April 21st! We will have a record number of racers (and PRIZES) this year, so we couldn't be more thrilled. There's still time to register if you haven't already!
We have an Intro to Photovoltaic Systems Workshop and an Advanced Cheese Making Workshop coming up fast! Register to reserve your spot before they fill up! Our goal is to bring sustainability to central North Carolina quickly, innovatively and while enjoying the journey.

Send-A-Kid-to-Camp?
We've already reached 4 kids' scholarships with a goal of 9!
Did you go to summer camp when you were younger? What parts can you still remember?
Between the new friends, the new games & experiences in nature, and the camp counselors to look up to, Summer Camp can make a huge difference in a kid's life.
With just $10, you can help subsidize the cost of Renewable Energy & Local Food Summer Camp for some Chatham County youth who may not otherwise be able to afford to go to summer camp this year.

Trail Build Day - May 5th!
*WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
Trail Maintenance & Margaritas!
With generous community and volunteer support, The Abundance Foundation is going to build a 1-mile long Nature Interpretive Trail along the perimeter of the Eco-Industrial Park in Pittsboro to educate kids, families and ALL people on native trees, life-cycles and ecosystems specific to our Chatham County habitat.
The tour will be hands-on, all-ages, cell-phone free, and provide a wealth of environmental education specific to our region. The Nature Interpretive Trail will feature Black Walnut, Honey Locust, Elderberry, wetlands, reparian landscapes, herbs, wild-edibles, and highlight the important roles of specific plants, their medicinal properties, as well as species identification. * We call on the help of any and all folks who would like to volunteer to help build this trail! The first workday is Saturday, May 5th, from 10am-4pm and margaritas (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be served afterward. Come join us outside on the trail!
