FGIS in Kansas City

Over the past two days, the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) Advisory Committee met in Kansas City at the new FGIS Technical Center.  The Tech Center is the seat of the "supreme court" of U.S. grain quality.  All grain for export falls under the Grain Standards Act and the jurisdiction of FGIS.  Issues such as the recent analysis and review of the "ethanol seed" 3272 and reaction to China's rejection of U.S. soybean exports all fall under the FGIS.

The most interesting agenda item was new research that showed moisture reading results are affected by the way corn moisture samples are dispersed in the testing cell (i.e. poured or dropped).  For any of us that have had to deal with farmer complaints about grade issues...the USDA KC Tech Center is a must see.

We believe positions are unique to each person's risk bearing ability, marketing strategy and crop conditions, therefore we give no blanket recommendations. The risk of loss in trading commodities can be substantial, therefore carefully consider whether such trading is suitable for you in light of your financial condition.
