China's Corn Demand and Malthus

Last week's WSJ article about China's growing food needs sent me searching for a quote by Thomas Malthus.  "The power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man."  Malthus' theory has been discredited for 200 years but current supply/demand trends raise an important concern.  Can plant geneticists continue to deliver increasing yields?

 

 

Biotech Advisory Committee Openings

The USDA Biotechnology Advisory Committee needs representation from Plains States and renewable fuels. 

Nominations must be postmarked or faxed by April 18th.
