Cornmeal Politics 

 

Morton Sosland, the publisher of our favorite food publication Milling & Baking News, writes a reflective column that he calls "Peregrination". This is our "Peregrination" for the week.

 

45 years-ago there was a Continental Grain Company meeting in Tarrytown, NY.  One of the senior export merchants claimed his job was to prevent wars.  Today's public may view food as a tertiary reason for the current upheaval in the Middle East.  However, with oil again at $100, commodity prices will be making "risk management" a daily necessity just to maintain basic sustenance levels.  Current events will test how proficient those of us in the mercantile "craft" really are.
