An Important Message About the New Pertussis Immunization Law!
Whooping cough (pertussis) has been widespread in California during 2010. California legislature recently passed Assembly Bill 354, which requires students who are entering 7th through 12th grade in the fall to be immunized against pertussis. All students entering grades 7-12 will be required to have a Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine booster and provide supporting documentation before their first day of the 2011-12 school year. We are requesting that families have their students vaccinated with a Pertussis (Tdap) booster and bring booster documentation to the school office before June 1, 2011 to prevent any delays in enrollment for the fall. BOYS BASKETBALL EAGLES "HITS" JUST KEEP ON COMING! |
The 2010-2011 boys basketball team celebrated their Undefeated Express League Championship season on Monday night with a commemorative poster and a top-notch banquet in their very own Eagles' Nest.
Approximately 100 people showed up as the newest banner, which will be put in the gym rafters, was presented by Principal Dr. Gaunt to honor the 11 League Champion Varsity players: Seniors Nathan Antoun, Derrick Carter, T.J. Valois, Richie Simoes, David Orgill, Zachary McKee, Jordan James, Landon Melzer, Junior Christian Lenzen, Freshmen Parker Coss and Sam Sukut.
Celebration was required after a 10-0 League Championship, a CIF Home Playoff Game, and a 19-5 overall record for the Eagles. The following awards were given to the Champion Birds:
Nathan Antoun, Christian Character Award Landon Melzer, Eagle Award David Orgill, MVP Chris Lenzen, Coach's Award Zachary McKee, Most Improved
Nathan Antoun, ASB Chaplain said, "I am so thankful for everything God has given me, all the opportunities He has blessed me with. What a great recap to an amazing basketball season the banquet was. I'm so glad I played basketball. I love these guys." Not only did our school recognize the excellence of this Championship team and the fine season they had, but the Express League coaches selected the following members to be named to the prestigious All League Team:
Captain David Orgill, Senior, MVP of the League Zachary McKee, Senior, 1st Team All League Captain Chris Lenzen, Junior, 1st Team All League Parker Coss, Freshmen, 2nd Team All League Nathan Antoun, Senior, Honorable Mention Derrick Carter, Senior, Honorable Mention Senior MVP David Orgill commented, "I love my basketball team. This season was a blessing I'll never forget. I'm so proud of all we accomplished!" Coach Brogdon summed it up this way, "For our players to be awarded six All League Honors is likened to the Lakers having six players named to the All Star Team. It is very rare and proved that what our Lord did in this team this season, gifting us with Eagle Excellence in athletic achievement, was recognized by not only by our own school, players, families and friends, but also by our opponents. What a great season to be a Bird!" To our awesome Eagles Seniors, we say, "THANKS FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEMORIES!"

EAGLES COACH/ALUMNUS NAMED "2011 EXPRESS LEAGUE COACH OF THE YEAR" |
Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Zachary Brogdon, CVCS Alumnus, was selected by the Express League coaches as the 2011 Coach of the Year.
When asked about this award, Coach Brogdon was quick to point out that this was a team & coaching staff collective award; that without his coaches (mentor and former CVCS coach Dave King who assisted this year), his Assistant Coach Kyle Brogdon (who also attended CVCS), and Head JV Coach Jared Kaiser (a Chapman alumnus) and his TEAM putting in the long, hard hours of work, he would not have received this honor.
Coach Brogdon, who graduated Summa cum Laude from CVCS with a 4.3 GPA, played Basketball, Football, and Golf, earned his degree from Biola in Theology. At the recent victory banquet, Coach encouraged the basketball players in the Lord teaching them from Ephesians 2, urging them to realize that while winning and sports is a worthy pursuit, that if the Lord isn't first in your life, something will always be missing.
The team's motto of "Pray Hard, Play Hard" from the team verse, I Corinthians 9:25, was what we used for inspiration to prepare our hearts for the battle of our season's ups and downs.
Coach Brogdon commented, "We ended our banquet the same way we began our season, and the way we played each game, dedicating our players on center court to the Lord and praising Him for the gift of athletic ability and the ability to serve Him. God chose to honor that commitment to Him with a League Championship this year. As our eight seniors graduate in June and leave our halls as I once did, my prayer is that they will go and use their talent to make an impact on this world for Christ, in whatever they do."
Assistant Coach Dave King said, "Not only is it great for our students to watch one of our own return to build a successful program teaching Eagle Excellence, but it's also good for CVCS that the competitive, secular athletic world recognize Head Coach Brogdon, and our team's, achievement."

| The Ladies Library Luncheon in December was a great success! The luncheon brought in over $13,000 and that may be our highest number to date! Our classrooms have already begun to reap the benefits. We are in the process of upgrading our AR classroom computers and have purchased some new student requested books. Because of your help, we are able to continue to maintain and improve available library resources and programs such as World Book Online, Accelerated Reader, & Destiny - our web-based Library management system. CVCS would like to thank all the parents for their attendance and contributions; the volunteers for all their time love and effort they put into making it so successful; and our Library Luncheon Coordinator Monica Park and her team of VIP's: Dawn Keelin, Tedi Ulrich, Lisa Wood, Rebecca Barraza, Daisy Anawalt, Deb Legris, Stacey Rauh, Saroya Williamson, Regina McAleer, Michele Duenas, Teri Whitney, Keri Sukut, Susan Langevin, & Jennifer Murphy. We could not have made these improvements or maintain our programs if it were not for the continued support of The Friends of the Library. We are grateful for the investment you have made in the lives of our students! |
