Brownfield Inventory Toolkit
Hosted by CMAP Tuesday, August 10, from 10:00 - 11:30 am The Brownfield Inventory Toolkit is a free web-based brownfield program management tool.
It was designed especially for villages, cities and regional
coalitions, for entering site data, uploading documents and
automatically generating reports required for brownfield redevelopment.
CMAP has partnered with Kansas State University & U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to offer a comprehensive brownfield program management tool. While this toolkit will be available specifically for the northeastern region, it could potentially be expanded statewide if there is an interest. Click here to register online. Energy Future: A Transportation Perspective
Hosted by the Transportation Research Board Thursday, August 12, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm This webinar will
explore America's Energy Future project through the eyes of
transportation professionals. Presenters will discuss the impact that
petroleum has on the economy and national security, the ability to
incorporate liquid fuels produced from coal and biomass into U.S. energy
strategy, and the development of efficiency technologies and new

Monday, August 23, from Noon to 2:00 pm The Springfield FHWA office has registered for the training session and has reserved their conference room for those interested in attending.
The Interagency
Working Group on Planning Regulations Training for Resource Agencies is
sponsoring this session. This
training will provide an overview of the role of resource and
regulatory agencies in transportation planning, the benefits of early
involvement, and useful tools and tips. Upon completion, participants
will: Understand the key elements of the statewide and metropolitan transportation planning process. Identify
opportunities within the process where resource and regulatory agencies
can provide input, data, and expertise to shape transportation
decision-making. Communicate needs for further training opportunities they may be experiencing.
Federal Highway Program Financing Presented by Federal Highway Administration in collaboration with the Illinois MPO Advisory Council. Tuesday, August 24 at CMAP office, Lake County Room or Tuesday, August 31 at the FHWA Springfield Office. The morning session is from 9:30 to 11:30. The afternoon session is from 1:00 to 3:00. STAFF UPDATE
This week I attended two training sessions at CMAP headquarters. The first is the US Census Bureau Data User Conference utilizing the 2007 Economic Census Data. The slide show, exercises and illustrative findings can be online by clicking here. The website also has a 'Notify Me' icon which you can sign up for notices for state and national data. Click here to be taken directly to the webpage. The second training session was offered as a webinar. The topic was "How can your community's plan yield federal dollars?" It was presented by the USEPA Regional 5 Brownfields Coordinator, a USHUD Community Planning and Development Representative, along with Illinois Resource Net. I attended to learn more about behind activities for hosting a GoToWebinar. The webinar was recorded and materials will be available soon.
NEXT MEETING Plans are underway for the next MPO Advisory Council meeting to coincide with the ILARC Annual Meeting in East Peoria on August 30 and 31. I will send out a solicitation for agenda items next week along with the draft minutes from the last meeting.
