NEWS FROM NARC
The 'Putting Smart Growth To Work In Rural Communities report completed by the International City/County Management Association examines the challenges rural communities face, including rapid growth at metropolitan edges, declining rural populations and the loss of working lands.  It further highlights smart growth strategies that can help guide rural growth while preserving the unique rural character of existing communities.  Click here to be taken directly to the ICCM site to download the report.

NEWS FROM AMPO
Recently, AMPO met with Senate staff from the Environment and Public Works Committee and staff from Senator Carper's (D-DE) office to discuss CLEAN TEA.  A newly released version of the bill would require MPOs over 200,000 and States to develop target and strategies to reduce both transportation-related oil consumption and GHG emissions.

The new version does not include resources to aid MPOs and States in the development or implementation of the strategies.  AMPO states they will continue to work with staff and offer comments and legislative suggestions.  It is their understanding, Senator Carper will continue to press Senator Reid to include a version of CLEAN TEA in the energy package.
