Mayor Bloomberg opens Tel Aviv Centennial event in New York

Harvey Krueger and Josh Weston honored and named Benefactors
of the City of Tel Aviv

Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor Huldai

More than 350 prominent guests gathered on November 16 at the Grand Hyatt New York to celebrate the Tel Aviv Centennial.

The evening began with a message of friendship by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who noted that Tel Aviv and New York share more than their sister city affiliation - both were built by pioneers and visionaries.

The festivities were led by the emcee, Mike Burstyn, who navigated a full program with grace and good humor. The program featured the TLV 100 multimedia exhibit (one of the highlights of the evening), singers from the IVAI program, Tenor Yevgeni Shapovalov, keynote speaker Ambassador Alon Pinkas, and in a very moving ceremony, Mayor Ron Huldai presented Harvey Krueger and Josh Weston with the Benefactor of Tel Aviv proclamation - the highest honor any single person can receive from the city of Tel Aviv.

The Tel Aviv Foundation extends warm and heartfelt thanks to all who supported this event.

The day-long festivities started with a moving performance by the New World Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas.

The event next shifted to the Moore Building in the Design District where a festive party took place which included the viewing of the TLV 100 multimedia exhibit, great food and drink, dancing, music and the showing of a rough cut of a new documentary about the Bialik Rogozin School in Tel Aviv.

Through the generosity of the Miami friends, a new pre-kindergarten will be established in Tel Aviv that will educate and nurture 70 children each year who come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Warm and heartfelt thanks to all friends who supported this event.
