Meet George Draffan

I am a Seattle-based practitioner and teacher of Buddhist meditation and Taoist energy practices.

I began my study of Buddhism with Geshe Lhundup Sopa at the University of Wisconsin in the 1970s. I've received instruction from teachers in many Buddhist traditions, and participated in retreats with Ken McLeod, Michael Conklin, Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, Rodney Smith, U Silananda, Ajahn Amaro, Yvonne Rand, Chozen and Hogen Bays, and Robert Joshin Althouse. I have immense appreciation and undying gratitude for every one of them. Since 1993 I've worked with Ken McLeod, who was trained in the Tibetan Shangpa Kagyu tradition.

My practice in recent years has been centered in Tibetan vajrayana and mahamudra, and in body-based practices such as anapanasati, qigong and Feldenkrais. My practice and teaching emphasizes:

· Awareness of the body as the ground of all experience

· Bringing traditional teachings alive in direct experience

· Cultivating the foundational skills of stability (shamatha), clarity (vipashyana), and responsiveness (skillful means)

· Intention, awareness, and flexibility amidst the activities of daily life

· Understanding the context and appreciating the validity of different traditions and practices

· Helping people connect with their own motivation, working with them to clarify their goals and sustain their practice.
