Greetings!
This week we continue the epic "Wake Up to Your Life," by Ken McLeod. This week: Buddhism in a Nutshell, Chapter Two. Ken's description of this familiar story makes it new again, and points the emphasis toward where to focus in practice. Books are available for $12 at my house or you can order through this link on our website: here. Does anyone know someone willing to babysit in the neighborhood? We have a couple who would love to come but need childcare for their two wonderful girls 8 and 10, very easy to be with, both adopted from China. If you know of someone, put me in touch. Save the Date for May Retreat May 21-22- My dear dharma friend Greg Bender has agreed to come visit us in May for a teaching on the nature of mind. Greg has been a practitioner for over 30 years and has been encouraged to teach Mahamudra. Exact details are to be determined, but it will probably be a teaching at our usual time on Friday night, plus Saturday morning and afternoon. Stay tuned! Dharma Study Date/Time:Friday, 7:00 -9:00 p.m. Location:Home of Rita Frizzell in the Belmont/Hillsboro neighborhood, 1716A Linden Avenue, Nashville, TN 37212. 615-463-2374. Click here for map. |
A Personal Invitation
First Unitarian Universalist Church · 1808 Woodmont Blvd. · Nashville Sundays 10:50 a.m.
As some of you know, I started attending the Unitarian Church in the neighborhood earlier this year for a sense of larger community and a place to contribute to social justice causes. It has turned out to be a transformative healing experience, very Buddhist-friendly, and I'm planning to join this coming Sunday.
Membership Day, April 25-- I'd like to invite all my friends to join me this coming Sunday for the membership book-signing ceremony. My parents are coming and I'd love to have a small, boisterous crowd to celebrate this meaningful occasion and perhaps go out to lunch afterwards.
Buddha's Birthday, May 2-- Gail Seavey will be speaking on Living Buddha and I've been invited to participate in the service. From the newsletter: "We celebrate the Buddha's birthday by examining Bodhisattvas -- living Buddhas -- enlightened beings who choose to remain in the "samsara" world to help others. What do Bodhisattvas teach us about living our values in our everyday lives?"
