Greetings!

Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
This Friday we will review Madhyamaka, the middle way school of philosophy, and include material from the book. We are moving toward the conclusion of our series, Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness, so this is a good opportunity to clarify view.

We'll also spend some time in meditation.

Luminous Mind is pleased to present a workshop with
Dr. Mario Martinez in a cutting-edge fusion of
Buddhist psychology & western mind-body science.

We want to cultivate the qualities of lovingkindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, but what do we do with negative emotions such as anger, jealousy, and aggression?

In this presentation Dr. Mario Martinez teaches how to apply Western mind-body science to Buddhist concepts of the exalted emotions known in Buddhism as the Four Immeasurables, or Four Brahmaviharas. Based on how cognition and emotions affect the immune system, biocognitive techniques offer an added dimension to resolve the fear-based emotions that can block the health benefits of the Four Immeasurables and other Buddhist contemplative techniques.

Dr. Martinez is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of biocognitive science. He is the author of the psychological novel "The Man from Autumn" (Llumina Press) and the CD learning series "The Mind-Body Code" (Sounds True). Because of his specialty in how cultural and spiritual beliefs affect the immune system, he has been a consultant for the BBC, National Geographic, the Catholic Church, and Buddhist monks. For more information on Mario's work visit
www.biocognitive.com. Presented in conjuction with the Institute of Biocognitive Psychology.

The event will be a fundraiser for Luminous Mind to allow us to bring in more teachers in the future.

Note: A Friday night study series on the Four Immeasurables will begin following this special event.

This Week's Quotes

"Unformed, luminous, and empty, it is the natural state of awareness."
~ Padmasambhava

"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."
~ Yoda

"The purpose of meditation is to awaken in us the skylike nature of mind, and to introduce us to that which we really are, our unchanging pure awareness that underlies the whole of life and death.

In the stillness and silence of meditation, we glimpse and return to that deep inner nature that we so long ago lost sight of amid the busyness and distraction of our minds."

~ Sogyal Rinpoche

Let's wake up!
