Greetings!

Dharma Study Group is ON this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. We'll watch Part 2 of the Mind-Only Meditation on Emptiness, from Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness by the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. This section will focus in on the four-step contemplation which leads into the meditation itself. This takes us into very subtle and rarified territory... it's a joy that we get to study this together.

Re-View Video Monday night 7:00 -- If you miss Friday night or just want to review, come to the Re-View session. We only watch the video with no discussion afterwards, so it only takes about an hour.

Update on Mom -- My mother had a an event last Wednesday, called a TIA (Transient ischemic attack). It's also called a warning stroke because the cause and symptoms are the same, but in a TIA they leave no residual damage. She was alert and speaking by the time I reached the emergency room in Murfreesboro and she was admitted to the hospital. After several tests, they were all found to be clear and they let her go Friday. I stayed wth her through Sunday to keep a close eye on her, cook for her and Dad, and make sure she didn't do too much. By Sunday she woke up feeling completely normal and has continued feeling good all week. The TIA was a warning that she needed to be on a heavy-duty bloodthinner to prevent future bloodclots and a real stroke because she has arrhythmia. We all feel very blessed that she is well, and I thank everyone for your prayers and good thoughts.
Luminous Mind presents:
"Embodying the Four Immeasurables:
A Biocognitive Approach to Buddhism"
Dr. Mario Martinez Friday, October 9 7-9 pm

Mario Martinez
In this presentation Dr. Mario Martinez teaches how to apply Western mind-body science to Buddhist concepts of the exalted emotions. Based on how cognition and emotions affect the immune system, biocognitive techniques offer an added dimension to resolve the fear-based emotions that can block the health benefits of the Four Immeasurables.

Dr. Martinez is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of biocognitive science. He is the author of the psychological novel "The Man from Autumn" (Llumina Press) and the CD learning series "The Mind-Body Code" (Sounds True). For more information on Mario's work visit biocognitive.com

The event will be a fundraiser for Luminous Mind for bringing in more teachers in the future. Location to be announced.

The event will kick off a study on the Four Immeasurables which will continue on Friday nights afterwards. Suitable for anyone of any spiritual path, whether a newcomer or experienced.

This Week's Quote

"Do not make the mistake of imagining that the nature of mind is exclusive only to our minds. It is in fact the nature of everything. It can never be said too often that to realize the nature of mind is to realize the nature of all things." -- Sogyal Rinpoche
Let's wake up!
