New content is
added weekly!
Greetings!

I'm so sorry, but due to a family emergency* I had to go out of town and must cancel our regular weekly meeting tomorrow night. We'll be back on next Friday with flying colors. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Last Friday's meditation with Ken McLeod on podcast was off the charts. A link is posted on the blog so you can try it at home if you'd like. There's also an exciting announcement:
Dr. Mario Martinez to Speak for Luminous Mind
Mario Martinez
I received a call this week from Mario Martinez, PsyD, who offered to give a talk for Luminous Mind. Mario is a biocognitive psychologist who blends Buddhism with mind-body science and gives talks at symposiums around the world. His talk will be a cutting edge fusion of Buddhism and psychoneuroimmunology The topic:

"Embodying the Four Immeasurables: A Biocognitive Approach to Buddhism"

In this presentation Dr. Mario Martinez teaches how to apply Western mind-body science to Buddhist concepts of the exalted emotions. Based on how cognition and emotions affect the immune system, biocognitive techniques offer an added dimension to resolve the fear-based emotions that can block the health benefits of the Four Immeasurables.

Dr. Martinez is a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of biocognitive science. He is the author of the psychological novel "The Man from Autumn" (Llumina Press) and the CD learning series "The Mind-Body Code" (Sounds True). For more information on Mario's work visit biocognitive.com

The event will be a fundraiser for Luminous Mind for bringing in more teachers in the future. Mario is donating his time because he believes in the mission of Luminous Mind. Exact date and location to be announced soon. We are looking at October 9 or 10, depending on venue availability. So far, we're looking at 12South Dharma Center and the Unitarian Universalist Church on Woodmont. Is anyone here a member of the UU?
(Members get a discount.) ... or have a great idea for an inexpensive space that can hold 50-100 people?

I have posted an item about the event on the blog so if anyone wants to connect with others going, use the comment forms to make plans. I MIGHT be able to make it back in town for the Sunday evening performance, but I can't promise.

Prayer Requests

* Please pray for my mother, Sarah Frizzell. She had a minor stroke yesterday -- a TIA -- and is in the hospital in Murfreesboro. We expect she may be released tomorrow, but I'm going to stay nearby for a few days to keep a close watch on her.

-- Please continue to pray for Nickie Stanley's father in hospice, as well as for the whole family.
Let's wake up!

With love,

Rita Frizzell
