Chai Benson is a Mental Health and Disabilities Manager for Early Head Start in Los Angeles. Chai wants to share her experience, training and passion for early education with families in Long Beach. She's working towards a preventative mental health movement and sees infant massage as a perfect introduction to healthy development.
Chai will be offering parents an opportunity to learn Infant Massage beginning in September. Check-out the details below...

Welcome to Everyday Zen Relaxation Studio! We are a bodywork atelier that provides our guests not just relaxation, but a 'whole person' experience that aligns the body, mind and spirit. Our hands-on services address the body's immediate need for stress and pain relief and our alternative healing methods offer solutions to nourish the mind and soul.
We offer massage modalities such as Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Hot Stone, and Swedish. And we offer stress management and alternative healing through Meditation, Reiki, Shamanic Healing, Flower Essences, Tonal Therapy, and Hypnotherapy. We proudly use the Dermalogica skin care line and have a very effective facial program that targets your skin's individual needs. Our full-service waxing bar is for both men and women and offers the most up to date techniques and styles. We even have a cozy tea room that features a variety of delicious fair-trade Rishi Teas.

Join us for First Fridays in Bixby Knolls! The mission of First Fridays is to promote and support local artists and musicians by providing them with an outlet to showcase their work. Every first Friday night of the month, participating Bixby Knolls businesses unite to promote local artists and musicians through extended operating hours. In doing so we hope to encourage a dialogue between businesses, artists and the community.
This is Everyday Zen's first opportunity to participate in the event and we're happy to announce that we have TWO artists to feature: painter James Naccarato who creates a wonderful world of colorful and playful creatures on canvas; and our artist in glass, Maria Weston. Come and see this dynamic work and meet the artists!
Also joining us will be Resident Harpist, Jillian Risigari-Gai who will serenade us with her enchanting harp as the evening cools and cake designer, Christy Platt has created some sweet treats just for the occassion.
As an added bonus for the evening, Marja Rosette, our esthetician, is teaming up with the experts from Dermalogica to offer free Face Mapping for all guests this evening. What is Face Mapping? It's a skin analysis that allows you and a professional skin therapist to create an effective plan of action to put you on the road to FANTASTIC skin.
And Kumi Ritchey, our Reiki Master, will be offering mini-Reiki sessions for $10. This is an excellent way to experience the healing benefits of this ultra-relaxing healing modality. And a wonderful way to end a stressful work week.
We'll also be featuring sweet treats from cake designer, Christy Platt. YUMMY!

James Naccarato, Long Beach Artist |

James Naccarato creates a wonderful world of colorful and playful creatures. Naccarato's figures often have a fictional quality to them, but at the same time his creations feel very natural, organic and possibly preternatural -- perhaps even "real."
Drawing inspiration from the world around him, Naccarato uses what he sees to infuse his characters with life. He processes information gathered from his daily observations to create his own universe full of twisted and surreal landscapes inhabited with an array of creatures uniquely suited for their particular habitats.
James Naccarato was born in Kingston, New York; but has lived most of his life in various parts of northern, central and southern California. Naccarato earned his B.F.A from the Laguna College of Art and Design. He currently lives in Long Beach with his wife and three children and has been showing regularly around the country since graduating.

Maria Weston, Artist in Glass |

A Long Beach, California native, Maria's life long love of art and crafting began as a child,when she would fashion found objects into jewelry, and spend afternoons painting and drawing.
In the late 80's Maria learned the art of leaded glass and became enamored with the colors, textures, and the zippered sound of a glass cutter scoring glass. In the early 90's, she was introduced to kiln formed glass, also known as fused glass. It was love at first sight!
Since then she has been firing glass, creating original art pieces for friends and family, as well as taking on commissioned work.

Jillian Risigari-Gai, Harpist |
Jillian Risigari-Gai currently a 4th year Performance Major- Harp at California State University- Long Beach. She currently is Principal harpist of the CSULB Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Long Beach Ballet Company, and Co-Principal of Young Musicians Foundation's Debut Orchestra.
She plays a multitude of different venues such as tea's, weddings, church services, parties, jazz groups, orchestral, musical theatre, ballet, opera, film scores, and memorial services (to name a few). She still continues to play in many different venues all over the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. | |

Upcoming Workshop Series: Infant Massage to Build Strong Bonds with Chai Benson |

Sundays September 13th through October 4th 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
 Infant massage is really one of the best kept secrets of Eastern civilization. Caregivers have been massaging their infants for centuries and utilizing the strokes as part of their daily childcare activities. In parts of India and Africa these techniques have been handed down from one generation to the next.
Today, infant massage is proven to: increase oxytocin of the caregiver and decrease cortisol levels, strengthen brain connections for the developing infant, strengthen or create a secure attachment between infant and caregiver, stimulate circulatory and respiratory systems, and relieve gas, constipation, congestion and water retention for the infant. The most exciting part is that all of these healing components are facilitated by you, the parent!
Learn how to maximize this powerful healing potential by learning the strokes for your infant. Everyday Zen Relaxation Studio will be holding classes on Sundays September 13th-October 4th 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Class includes a 1 oz bottle of infant massage oil, parent topic discussion, and instructions on specialized strokes. Please bring: your 0-7 month old infant, a towel and/or baby blanket and a desire to have fun and learn!
