| EFAC Donors Meet Students and Go On Safari
Founders Rod and Nancy Van Sciver travelled to Kenya with a group of 15 donors. The donors visited with the 96 EFAC scholars at their schools. The students and sponsors were overwhelmed by the warm connections that were made. Letters and packages were delivered from many of the sponsors who did not attend and each student felt he or she had made a connection with the "EFAC Community." It is hard to describe what each and every donor has given to these children. The EFAC donors have removed the fear of life without a future for every EFAC scholar, but they have also given them a unique connection with a caring EFAC Community.
These are some of the brightest and most motivated young teens you will ever meet. The children's stories of how they managed to succeed despite their circumstances are powerful. We know that Kenya will be in good hands with this next generation of leaders.
The EFAC group traveled from the schools to the famed Maasai Mara. The safari was breathtaking and the highlight was the cheetah that jumped up on the jeep. YIKES!
Join the next donor trip to meet the EFAC scholars and experience a unique safari. To see more photos and learn more about the trip, read our February and March blog entries as well as Molly Stahler's travel blog.

| | Student Spotlight: Sophia
Before becoming an EFAC Scholar, Sophia lived with her two siblings, grandmother, and mother in a mud house without any utilities. She was first in her eighth grade class often studying without benefit of proper lighting and enough food to sustain her throughout the day.
Now in her second year at the top rated Starehe Girls' School, Sophia has become the "Most Improved Student" in her class. She has moved up 20 positions overall and also now ranks #1 in physics.
Sophia loves singing and her passion is music. In 2009 she was part of the Starehe Girls music group that performed at the National Kenyan Music Festival. With this chance at an education Sophia's story has only just begun.

| | Celebrate your Birthday with Facebook Causes
For her 32nd birthday, Molly Stahler asked her friends and family to donate $32 to EFAC through Facebook Causes as her present. Molly raised over $1,500 and with a match from her parents, she is now sponsoring Ivy, a student at Vanessa Grant School. In March, she travelled with EFAC to Africa and was happy to meet Ivy. Ivy and Molly are pictured here.
If you have a birthday coming up, consider using Facebook Causes to raise money for an EFAC scholar. Instead of asking for gifts, ask your friends to donate to EFAC. Go to Facebook Causes Birthday Wish to get started. |
| | NH Rotarians Support EFAC
EFAC has seen strong support from local Rotary Clubs recently. "We have touched a nerve with Rotary Clubs in that we both work locally, but have an international reach," said Nancy Van Sciver, President and founder of EFAC. "We share a desire to give people around the world the same opportunities that we enjoy."
Van Sciver recently addressed the Milford NH Rotary Club and told members about the 96 students who now attend top Kenyan boarding schools thanks to EFAC scholarships. After the presentation, the Milford club's board of directors voted to award a full one-year scholarship. "We felt by supporting EFAC, we could help change the world-one student at a time," noted Milford Rotary President Stephanie Kruy. Read EFAC's blog for more information on this presentation.
At another Rotary presentation at the Manchester Queen City Club, their past president was inspired to sponsor a four year scholarship immediately after hearing about EFAC. |
