EFAC CELEBRATES THE CLASS OF 2013

In April of 2008  we set out to award 20 high school scholarships to bright and impoverished Kenyan students. By January we had raised $180,000 and had awarded 43  scholarships.  Our goal for 2009 is to offer 50 more Kenyan scholarships.
We celebrate with you our amazing students and donors!

STAREHE GIRLS SCHOOL LAUNCHES COMPUTER LAB

June 2009 Starehe Girls' School launched their computer lab. They have secured 30 computers fully supported by Microsoft. Two of our four partner high schools, Rongai and Starehe, now have supported computer programs and a third will have a lab by 2010. This is a rarity in Kenya but criteria we look for in partner schools. In addition we look for schools to support our students when there is no place to go during school break or during their gap year.
In Kenya students admitted into the public universities must wait a year prior to enrollment. This leaves the students with nothing to do for that gap year. Starehe now offers housing and computer training to the form 5 girls who graduated in 2008 and are awaiting enrollment at a university. Congratulations to Starehe, an innovative leader in Kenyan secondary schools.
MEET JOHN PESI; FUTURE KENYAN LEADER

John is from a nomadic Maasi family. He has been extremely successful despite attending a primary school with sparse resources. In 2007, when John graduated from eighth grade, his family was unable to raise school fees.  John stayed home with nothing to do and although he was discouraged he did not lose his drive to attend high school.
In 2008, John applied for and was granted an EFAC scholarship that has changed his life and given him an opportunity to have a future other than herding livestock.

He began his EFAC scholarship at Kaaga Boys School in January 2009. At Kaaga he quickly became a leader and was elected the class prefect in a class of 240. In the first trimester he ranked ninth in his class.   After the first trimester, EFAC made the decision to move him to Rongai Boys' School which is more academically demanding and offers a work program which will allow John to earn money for his transport home, sports shoes and other necessities.

Rongai Boys' School is a private school run by the Franciscan Brothers and is able to keep tuition fees low by having the boys farm and care for the livestock. Rongai has a piggery run by the boys which allows the boys to have pork twice a week. In Kenya meat is a luxury. Rongai is a unique and high performing school located  in the Rift Valley.

EFAC Kenya salutes John as a notable student in the first trimester of 2009.

EFAC GOES NATIONAL: EVENTS  TO BE HELD IN DENVER AND CHICAGO

Join Together to Support EFAC

Education For All Children (EFAC KENYA) was honored to have James Aponovich, renowned New Hampshire painter, and David Lamb, New Hampshire master furniture maker, join together to do a collaborative presentation in support of Education For All Children. Both Aponovich and Lamb have received recognition for their artwork. James Aponovich has achieved national respect for his surreal still life paintings, and  David Lamb has won numerous design awards and is a founding member of the NH Furniture Masters Association. Their recent collaborations have resulted in a new area of excellence, the Lambovich.
