LET'S CHAT ABOUT PALEO
With Keith Morton at CWSS September 10th at 10:00am
Humans have been on earth for about 2 million years. Interestingly, obesity has been THE major nutritional problem for only about 50 years. What if the real solution to our diet problems could be found in emulating how man ate for basically his entire existence? Lets even go a little further: Agriculture has only existed roughly 10,000 years. That might sound like a lot, but it's a blip when compared to how long we've been walking around this planet.
In the proverbial nutshell, this is what paleo is all about; eating like humans ate before agriculture. There are loads of diet theories and concepts out there. Somehow, we're losing the battle. If you're interested in being exposed to a very logical, very successful, and most importantly, very healthy way of eating, please join me for a free round table discussion on September 10th at 10:00am at CWSS. No Cost. Please RSVP 773-281-7569
FALL DETOX
With Chris Chodos
Certified Health Counselor
Starts September 26th
Detoxification is a natural and essential process that we go through every day, every month and every year. In nature, there is an opportunity for detox with every season and even during each day. So don't miss an opportunity to experience this seven day "short cleanse."
The cleanse will detox and nourish your lymphatic system which is the highway that drains the wastes from your body and controls your immune system. Some of the toxins stored in our fat cells are preservatives, pollutants, pesticides and other cancer-causing chemicals.
Included in the detox:
*Kicharee: ideal to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is a food that pulls toxins from the body; is high in protein and extremely healing to the digestive tract.
*Organic Ghee
*Castor Oil
*Trikatu or Cool Digest: these herbs help to improve digestion.
*Manjistha: supports the lymph systems and purifies the blood.
*Tumeric Plus: an antioxidant that supports the body's natural response to inflammation, repairs tissue and supports the liver, skin and immune system.
*Gharsana Gloves: for dry skin brushing
*Lymphatic Massage Oil
Total Cost of Detox: $300.00
Certified Health Counselor, Chris Chodos, will be at CWSS on Saturday September 17th from 11:00am to 2:00pm to answer questions and finalize sign up for the detox. Supplements and payment will take place prior to the start date.
Follow Theresa and Chris beginning September 12th as they start the detox and share their impressions and experiences at www.facebook.com. LIKE US on facebook for instant updates.

CWSS CLIENT SPOTLIGHT:
JIM BUCKLEY
After a hip replacement and suffering from herniated discs in his lower back, Jim Buckley now credits years of SuperSlow to avoiding a second hip replacement, a pain-free back and the ability to lift cases of wine all day long!
Tell us a little about yourself.
Thirty-four years ago I started as a stock boy at Wine Discount Center/Famous Liquors. I worked my way up to become a manager and wine buyer of my own store on Elston Avenue for 20 years.
I love my job. Having traveled to nearly every major wine producing country, I've learned a lot and enjoy turning my customers on to new great wine finds.
What brought you to CWSS? How long have you been a client?
Thanksgiving Day, 1979, I dislocated my left hip during our annual Turkey Bowl football game, which at the time didn't seem like much. But by 1997 I started having pain in that same left hip and I learned then that the artery I didn't know I tore playing football that day, had been rotting for 18 years. The pain got worse and in 1999 I had a left hip replacement. While the surgery was a success, my insurance plan did not cover physical therapy, so back at work I was not lifting cases properly and ended up with two herniated discs.
I had back surgery two years later. Scar tissue grew around my siactic nerve and the pain was worse than before. I managed the pain with cortisone shots and acupuncture.
In 2003, a customer of mine at Wine Discount Center, John Svoboda, told me about SuperSlow. He had similar back problems and he told me SuperSlow helped relieve his back pain. The way he described it as slow, controlled, and with a personal trainer it sounded like physical therapy. John gave me a gift certificate and my first appointment was in February 2004. It was completely different from what I expected, was such a great challenge and I loved it.
How does your back feel now?
My back has never felt better. We are opening a new store in Naperville and just this past week I lifted 2,500 cases of wine over a six day period putting the store together. The 40 lb. cases of wine feel like feathers to me and I can lift cases all day long without getting tired. I owe it all to CWSS.
At one time you were told you would need a second hip replacement, but your prognosis has changed. How?
Yes, at my five year check up from the first hip replacement, my doctor told me I was looking at a replacement for the other hip, which had lost cartilage and deterioriated from years of limping and favoring the bad hip that had been replaced. At that time I had just started SuperSlow and my doctor told me to continue.
At my 10 year check up, after doing SuperSlow for five years, it was a completely different story. My doctor was blown away at my X-rays. The right hip was loaded with cartilage and the idea of a replacement was no longer a consideration. Also, my left hip looked like it had been replaced yesterday, and my doctor told me it should be good for another 40 years.
I had followed my doctors instructions to the fullest. No running, jumping or anything that would cause impact on the joint, and I took two cod liver pills everyday along with a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. Most important, I kept up with my SuperSlow workout every week. The result--the outlook for my hips serving me well couldn't be more positive.
Overall, how do you feel now?
I am 53 years old and I am stronger now then when I was 21. I have a very physical job and I have never felt better. SuperSlow has become my favorite part of the week. It is my therapy both physically and mentally. With the help of my trainer Becky, I have gotten stronger, become healthier, and have been able to avoid a major hip replacement surgery because of my SuperSlow workouts.
MISSED WORKING OUT THIS SUMMER?
By Becky Diebold
Something about summer makes it easy to put off everything else. Or take it all outside. If you "fell-off" your regular workout routine due to the dog days of summer, it's time to put it back on your weekly calendar.
Returning to your SuperSlow workout can be well, intimidating. Motivation might be low, and you push back that attempt to schedule your workout. Challenging yes, but very do-able. If you've been away this summer, a vacation from your SuperSlow workouts, we hope to see you back. You can book appointments online through our website, www.citywidesuperslow.com or call, 773-281-7569.
OTHER WAYS TO GET BACK ON TRACK: CWSS is offering some great opportunities to help stay on a healthy track. On September 10th, Keith Morton offers a round table discussion about the Paleo diet. Keith will show you the science behind Paleo, as well as how you can make this a "lifestyle" change and not a "diet."
Just a week later, on September 17th Chris Chodos will be at CWSS discussing her detox. This is a great opportunity to rid the body of toxins and clean out our immune system. Now the body is in an ideal position for our second Weight Loss Challenge starting on October 10th. CityWide clients had wonderful success with our first weight loss challenge in the beginning of the year. Our 30 participants lost a combined total of 155 pounds, plus many inches from their hips, thighs, etc. This is a great chance to get in your best shape yet before the holiday season. It's an opportunity to learn about how to make proper food choices for the holidays, and allow yourself to splurge on those seasonal treats without regret.
Participation in CWSS workshops are limited, so please let your trainer know if you are interested. We hope everyone had a wonderful summer, and we are looking forward to a great finish to 2011!
