crowd
Thank you to everyone who came out for the first annual Bacon-Fest held on Saturday, August 29. With amazing bacon samplings from area restaurants, live music, contests and yes...a cute pig this first for Kansas City was a great success for The Institute.  "We have introduced ourselves to a totally different crowd," said Dana Chatlin. "Everyone had a blast and they are looking forward to next year. We truly appreciate everyone who made this event happen. If you didn't get a chance to attend the event, check out the event photos by clicking here. Thanks to several photographers we have awesome event photos.

Yum...Ice Cream with all the toppings. Thanks SKC Communications!  Ice Cream Social
Employees from SKC Communications brought ice cream and toppings for the clients of the Main Street Sheltered Workshops. "Three years ago we (RI Industries) started doing some packaging for them," said Linda Lowenstein, Business Development Specialist. "Then they decided to 'adopt' our RI Industries workshop for thanksgiving." The SKC Communications employees have fixed and served thanksgiving lunch for the satellite workshop on Troost for the last two years and brought ice cream last year. "This year they wanted to do the ice cream social for the Main Street workshops," said Linda. SKC employees and their families not only served up ice cream but b
rightened the day of 120 clients. SKC Communications is a division of SKC Electric.

REHAB SPOTLIGHT

DONALD DUDLEY
Don Dudley
Don Dudley, Employment Development Specialist, has been with The Rehabilitation Institute for a year. He works in the downtown Employment Services department where he helps clients find and retain employment. Don has over 28 years of management and professional experience. For 10 years, he  worked with non-profit organizations including community centers. Don gained his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Missouri Western State College. "I am glad to have the opportunity to work for a great organization and with our clients," said Don.

Employment Services can do it all!
Employment Testing
From assessment and testing to coaching on the job, The Rehabilitation Institute's Employment Services team diligently works to help people with disabilities find jobs and be successful. "Many of our clients are referred by Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation but others come to us by word of mouth," said Aimee Adams, Employment Services Branch Manager for the Downtown KC Office. Once the client goes through our orientation they are evaluated on their aptitude and abilities so the employment team can know where to begin with the client. Then they move to career exploration and look at careers they might not have thought of otherwise. "We then create an employment plan and set goals," said Aimee. "We help with their preparation, applying for jobs and following up with employers." Once the client gets hired, The Institute can provide on-the-job coaches. "Within 90 days of their employment we track their progress and help them retain their job," said Aimee.
