Summer Camp is fun and therapeutic! Don't tell the kids but this camp is more than just fun, it's therapy! Pediatric patients participated in The Rehabilitation Institute's Summer Camp. This fun day camp ran four weeks and gives kids the therapy they need but the fun and excitement of a normal camp. The campers get to go on outings, have group activities and one-on-one activities with therapists. Each day began in a group session with a therapist in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy. The children played in the spray park at Sunny Side Park, enjoyed sports camps and went to Lakeside Nature Center. Photo above: Simone Porter, patient and camper, hit the ball at the National Sports Center for the Disabled's sports camp, which was one of the activities during Summer Camp. |

KC Provides Adapted Sports
Athletic and leisure opportunities are continuing to grow for disabled individuals through our organization as well as others in the Kansas City area. In the summer you can find The Institute staff and volunteers providing adapted skiing at A Day at the Lake. In the winter, the dedicated staff members of Snow Creek in Weston, MO alongside our certified staff give individuals with disabilities one-on-one instruction of snow skiing. Competitive sports are also available for people who are disabled through athletic organizations such as Kansas City Thunder and United States Volleyball Association. Kansas City is also fortunate to have organizations like the National Sports Center for Disabled providing year round camps and clinics.
