Nothing gets her down -
Katherine's making strides!

At age 5, Katherine went through something many of us can't Katherine with momimagine - she was shot in the head. While playing outside of her home, a stray bullet from a long distance struck her in the head. After immediate treatment and a hospital stay at Children's Mercy Hospital she made her way to The Rehabilitation Institute where she has relearned to talk, sit up and walk. When not at The Institute, Katherine receives therapy from school and help from her siblings at home. "Her siblings help her read and help her exercise," said Joanna. Now, a little over a year after the incident, Katherine is making progress and making everyone in her life's path smile. "When comparing her to where she was and where she is now, she is doing better," said JoAnne, Katherine's mother. "We are pleased that she is still making gains and progressing."

Capital Campaign Efforts
are Underway!

In December 2008, we launched our first capital campaign in 40 years!  The campaign, Rebuilding Lives: Restoring Hope, will help us create a state-of-the-art facility with expanded space for pediatric and adolescent services, updated treatment areas for spinal cord injury, brain injury and stroke and the addition of a therapy pool - to name only a few improvements.  We also will be relocating R.I. Industries from our ground floor to an adjacent building, enabling us to better address the needs of our business customers and provide new work experiences and earning potential for our clients.
