AWS offers "Summer Camp" for Long-Term Felines!

My Days at Summer Camp
By Panda

When I heard through the staff at AWS that they were offering summer camp getaways (find out more about Summer Camp at the bottom of this story) to Long Term Resident cats, I decided to put myself up for it. I knew it might be a little scary at first but I could really use some "Me Time." So, I am writing to report how great it has been!

This is the view from my window.
I have relaxing classical music going. Did you know listening to Mozart makes you smarter?
There is grooming time and some nice warm meals to enjoy.

I enjoy my daily Yoga workouts. In fact, this is me working on my "Upward Facing Cat" pose.

Then there is my very own toy box! I am pouncing and wrestling and hunting again! There are other cats here, but I have my own private room to explore.

I hope some of my Long Term Resident friends get the chance to rejuvenate at a Summer Camp getaway!

Time for a nap.
Paws and Whiskers to you,
Panda

*Cats who have been available for adoption for more than 3 weeks or Long Term Residents, at the AWS are eligible for the Summer Camp Program. Summer Campers are chosen by a foster family to go to their home for a bit of a respite from the bustle of shelter life. In the meantime, their kennel is used for a new arrival during the busy summer months.

Want to bring home a short term "camper"? Download and fill out a foster application and return to melissa@animalwelfaresociety.org

More "Paws in Stripes" Puppies will be available soon!

The Animal Welfare Society  partners with the Maine Correctional Center (MCC) in Windham on an exciting and heart-warming program:  Paws in Stripes. Every six weeks puppies who are transferred to AWS through our pAWS Across America Program are brought to the prison for six weeks of socialization, obedience classes, house training and most importantly, one-on-one love and attention.

At the end of the six weeks the puppies return to the shelter and are ready to be adopted.

The next class graduates in early September, so watch our website for more details!

Kids Love Pets!

No doubt about it!!

Today's young animal lovers are the future of animal welfare.

In order to thank the many children who go out of their way to help the homeless animals at the AWS, our Humane Educator offers Hero Tours.

Hero Tours are for children who make a contribution of any size to AWS. When a child makes a donation, our humane educator contacts the child to schedule a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility. After the tour, the child receives a Certificate of Appreciation and sticker. The child also has the option of having their picture taken for our web site.

Meet some recent AWS Heroes!
