How to Help Haiti's Animals in Need
Dear Friend of the
Animal Welfare Society,
As I'm
sure you are all aware, the Republic of Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake
late Tuesday afternoon, January 12.
The news
has been continuous and has outlined the crisis taking place, affecting both humans
and animals. You, like myself, may be considering the options of how we can
help this devastated country and its people and pets.
At this time, animal issues are secondary to the lives
and health of the many many people affected by this tragedy. Help and emergency
responses to their plight are accelerating and increasing each hour. In hours, days, or perhaps weeks
attention will finally turn to the animals and their needs in this disaster.
The AWS
has established a Fund for Haiti's Animals. Funds collected will be sent, in total, to The
Humane Society of The United States' partner organization, Humane Society
International.
On
Wednesday evening, we received the following advice from Humane Society
International: " Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the
United States are working with other animal welfare and humanitarian
organizations to determine how best to assist animals and people affected by
the disaster. We have offered our support in providing care to affected
animals."
With your
help, the Animal Welfare Society, as a trusted organization and its supporters
in New England, can have a significant positive impact on the people and
animals of Haiti. Several hundred dollars have already been contributed and we
respectfully invite you to join us in this international effort.
