AmericanIssueSolar in Illinois!!!
How does a state go from getting from less than 3.3 MW from solar power to getting 750 MW from solar power?  In 2009, Illinois passed new legislation that requires that a minimum of 6 percent of the Illinois overall Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) must be met by solar power starting in 2015. That amounts to about 750 megawatts of new solar generation capacity!

Getting from less than 3.3 MW to 750 MW means building a solid foundation and implementing smart policies.  Illinois is building the foundations for solar industry growth so that the state is ready to meet the large solar requirement when 2015 hits.  This means establishing solar targets for 2010 through 2014 to ease the change.

These solar targets will help to set the right goals, but to ensure Illinois reaches these goals, it is important to simultaneously put the right market-mechanisms in place. For more information on further solar legislation to help ease this transition see: Illinois Solar Bills.

Now, more than ever, is the time to take solar Illinios from a vision to a reality!

SolarServicesIllinois Solar Bills

Illinois is looking at three big solar bills in 2010. If passed, these bills will change Illinois' energy landscape, create new jobs, and create a brighter economic outlook for Illinios.  Keep an eye out for updates on the following three bills:

The first bill, SB3686, would establish small steps to successfully reach the solar requirement in 2016.  Starting in 2012 Illinois would develop 20 Megawatts of solar power and the amount would grow in achievable, bite-sized pieces each year.

The second companion bill,
HB6202, would expand the types of customers who qualify for net metering
.  Net metering helps consumers save money on their energy bills when they go solar.  For more information, click here.

The third bill, SB2505 allows for the creation of programs that help property owners make solar and efficiency improvements without upfront costs.  Called Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing, please click here.

JeffDavisHarneTech® Team Spotlight:
Chuck VonDrehle
Chuck VonDreleChuck VonDrehle joined HarneTech last fall as a solar system designer.  Chuck's experience in solar site design and project management has added a depth of experience to the team.  He spent the last three years managing the installation of Solar PV systems in California for Borrego Solar.  Over that time he managed the installation and design of 200+ PV systems, including residential, commercial and school projects.  He helped to add 1 MW of new solar generation capacity to the California energy grid, or approximately 1/3 of Illinois total solar capacity.

Chuck returned to Chicago after the birth of his daughter, Clementine, in order to bring his passion for solar energy to the Midwest.  He and his wife, Jenny, are both from the Chicago area and are happy to be back with family and friends.  He is a member of Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) and is sitting for the NABCEP certification test this fall.
