Financing Renewable Projects in Illinois |
|
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) "provides grants to U.S. local governments...to fund projects that reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and that improve energy efficiency." I believe the real message is that this country needs to take a leadership role to reduce our carbon emissions and increase our energy independence. And if that means allocating these funds to our local leaders and letting them show the way, then let's get going.
This program includes $3.2 billion of leadership. If your town or municipality has a population of 35,000 or more then you may want to check your town's allocation and the plans they have in place to use these funds.
The application due date for cities for these direct formula grants is June 25th and is rapidly approaching. We have found that the degree of awareness of our local municipalities runs the gamut from "our application is complete" to "how does that work again?" If your local municipal leaders fall into the latter category, HarneTech LLC's Consulting Division can help augment municipal staffs in completing their EECBG application and ensuring the appropriate steps are taken before this looming deadline. If you would like to know more about the EECBG contact Michael Wilder.

HarneTech® Solar |
|
As part of its ongoing efforts to stay on the cutting edge of renewable energy technologies, HarneTech sent two of its employees, Bobby Rogas and Jeff Davis, to Conserval Engineering in Toronto, Canada. Conserval is an established designer of highly innovative renewable solar energy applications.
While in Toronto, Bobby and Jeff became intimately familiar with the newest products available from Conserval and augmented their already extensive knowledge of solar thermal system design and installation as well as the very important payback analysis of interest to HarneTech's clients. Upon his return, Bobby was quoted as saying "These are products I'm truly excited about! They meet so many of our clients' needs; it makes perfect sense to use them here in the Chicagoland area."

HarneTech® Energy Audits |
|
Recently, as part of the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center program, HarneTech conducted a site inspection and analysis of the Palatine Park District Birchwood Pool and Community Center. The analysis provides energy savings and life-cycle cost estimates for various energy cost reduction measures (ECRMs). HarneTech, through the SEDAC program, has identified more than $44,000 in annual energy savings resulting in immediate cash flow, and a net present value of nearly $47,000. This results in an internal rate of return of nearly 9%.
Implementing these recommendations will enhance Birchwood Pool and Community Center's business bottom line, increase profitability, and reduce vulnerability to fluctuations in energy input prices. In addition, Palatine Park District stands to reap intangible benefits as well, including an increased ability to attract and retain employees and residents, improved community relations, and enhanced reputation as a well-managed company concerned about quality of life issues, improved employee productivity. As part of the Masters of Science program on Supply Chain Management, a final presentation was provided to the College on May 11th. The HarneTech management team received great value from the process and incorporated the consultations into our business plan.
