NHD RESEARCH REMINDERS
The research process is a key step for National History Day, laying the foundation for the entire project. However figuring out the right search terms, knowing where to look for information, and finding a balance between online and offline sources can pose a challenge to students.

We've developed a general overview of the research process to help get your students on the right track.
This presentation is designed for students who are already familiar with their topic and may have just begun the research process. Supporting worksheets will help students to follow along with the presentation as well as serving as takeaways for NHD binders or folders. Please feel free to contact us with feedback about this presentation!

NHD SUMMER INSTITUTE IN FRANCE

National History Day is announcing an exciting and unique summer institute for teachers and students - and part of the institute is in France! In June 2011, fifteen teacher/student teams will engage in a rigorous study of D-Day. Students and teachers will be immersed in lectures presented by leading World War II historians, participate in a scholarly study of the World War II monuments in the D.C. area and walk in the footsteps of history on the beaches of Normandy.

After attending the 2009 Summer Institute in Philadelphia myself, I can attest to the value of this opportunity and encourage all interested educators to apply! The majority of costs will be paid by NHD. Full details and application materials are available online. Applications are due by February 1, 2011.
