2009 NHD SUMMER INSTITUTE
Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 NHD Summer Institute, "Philadelphia: The Birthplace of Democracy," taking place in Philadelphia from July 13 through July 19. The institute will explore the history and legacies of Philadelphia as the first great American city. The Institute will improve the teaching of history by introducing participants to the most up-to-date scholarship on the history of Philadelphia, familiarizing them with the range of primary sources available for studying and teaching about a city that played an integral role in shaping this nation, and modeling effective methods by which to encourage active and engaged learning. These methods can readily be transferred to the study of other cities in the United States. Teachers of history/social studies (U.S. and World) in middle and high schools, librarians, and media specialists are invited to apply. The institute covers room and board (double occupancy) during the institute, field trips, and books and materials. Applications are due March 30, 2009. Additional information and application materials are on the NHD in Wisconsin website.

LAST CALL FOR EXHIBIT BOARDS!
All orders for NHD exhibit boards, available through the Minnesota History Day program, should be submitted by February 13. Unlike the typical science fair boards that can be purchased at office supply stores, these exhibit boards have proportional panels and more height. This creates a more balanced display of images, sources, and text. In order to be shipped, boards and title panels must be ordered in increments of 10. Exhibit boards are $7.00 each and title panels are $2.00 each. Prices include shipping and handling. More information and an order form are available on the NHD in Wisconsin website (PDF, 30KB). |
