About the Author
Dr. Nigel H. Croft
Dr. Nigel H. Croft
Dr. Nigel H. Croft is one of the world's foremost experts on the ISO 9000 series of standards. Among his many professional activities, Dr. Croft is a non-executive board member of a number of both commercial and non-profit organizations in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Middle East, Asia and South America.
 
Since he began his career in1974, Dr. Croft has had extensive practical experience in the implementation, operation and assessment of quality, environmental and health and safety management systems in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, South America and Asia. Since 1995 he has been active within International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 176 (TC 176), which is responsible for the ISO 9000 series of standards, serving as task group leader for the introduction of the ISO 9000:2000 standards and more recently as chair of the TC 176 Conformity Assessment Liaison Group. He is a member of the TC 176 Chairman's Strategic Advisory Group and a member of the senior management team that oversaw the ISO 9001:2008 revision.
 
In addition, he represents TC 176 on ISO's Conformity Assessment Committee (CASCO) and the Joint Working Group responsible for high-level coordination between the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and ISO.

Born in the United Kingdom, Dr. Croft holds dual British and Brazilian citizenship. He holds a first class honors degree and a Master's Degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, a Doctorate in Metallurgy from Sheffield University and has post-doctoral research experience at the University of California at Berkeley. He is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, a Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute and a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality.
