MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

President Schlesinger Everywhere you turn, students are "making exciting things happen" in and out of the classroom.

Earlier this month, students from across campus packed the E-Tower where the founders of IdeaPaint, one of the spectacular Babson student success stories, returned to the dorm where their business idea was born. They transformed the walls of the common areas with their customized whiteboard paint, providing creative space throughout for students to map business concepts. The E-Tower is one of the first places any student on campus can go to pitch ideas and get honest and helpful feedback.

Of course, not all the entrepreneurial activity on campus is about business creation. Consider the members of the women's basketball team, who have used their entrepreneurial spirit to propel the team to a perfect 25-0 record for the season. Babson is now ranked No. 5 in the nation by USA Today/ESPN. Babson will host the NEWMAC Championship Tournament during the February 26-27 weekend. You can watch these games live starting on Saturday, February 26, at 1 p.m. at http://www.babsonathletics.com/landing/index.

These two examples are multiplied many times each week on campus, demonstrating that the 154 hours a week students are not in the classroom are being spent productively as part of their learning experience.

Reminder - February 28 Alumni Survey Deadline
Please remember to complete the Babson Alumni Survey by February 28. An e-mail with the survey link was sent to you earlier this month.  If you misplaced the e-mail, please contact Effie Parpos. Survey results will be shared in an alumni newsletter in late spring.

FME Spring 2011 Businesses
As part of the required course, Foundations for Management and Entrepreneurship (FME), all first-year Babson students are given the assignment in the fall semester to develop a business model for a team of 30 individuals. This year's businesses have been narrowed down to the final 18, and all of them have begun operations that will run throughout the spring semester. View the descriptions of this year's businesses at www.babson.edu/fmebusinesses.

Wanted: Former FME Students
If you were part of a Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship course, we would like to hear about your experience. Research involves interviewing alumni (working within an hour of Boston) on video, culminating in a documentary to be presented to faculty and staff involved in the re-evaluation of FME. This won't take more than 30 minutes, and we will travel to you. Please reply to Stephen Chisa (schisa1@babson.edu) or Amy Malinowski (amalinowski1@babson.edu) by e-mail if you are interested in helping.
