the popular opera Les Contes d'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) by Jacques Offenbach, Pafos Aphrodite Festival opens its curtain on 2nd, 3rd and 4th September 2011, for the 13th consecutive year, at the Medieval Castle in Pafos, hosting on its stage the Opera of the National Theatre Prague. With this opera Pafos Aphrodite Festival aspires to offer its music loving audience an unforgettable experience and to satisfy the expectations of the friends of the Festival for an internationally acclaimed performance.
Contes d'Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach premiered in Paris in 1881, a few months after the death of the composer and remains particularly popular until today. Jacques Offenbach was one of the biggest composers of popular music in the 19th century Europe, one of the creators of the music kind of operetta and one of the pioneers of contemporary music comedy.
The grotesque imagination of Hoffmann, the German poet who wrote fairytales in the beginning of the 19th century, constituted an amazing material for the composer, upon which he drew and wrote a masterpiece between imagination and reality. The role of Hoffmann is inspired by a real person, the writer Ernst Hoffmann, whose imaginary stories constituted the base of the libretto which was adapted in French by Jules Barbier. نال هذا العام 56 شاطىء في قبرص جائزة "العلم الأزرق" بقرار من لجنة حكام دولية، وهذا يعني الالتزام بالقوانين البيئية الصارمة.
العلم الأزرق هو علامة بيئية حصرية تم منحها لأكثر من 3450 شاطىء ومرفأ في أكثر من 41 بلد في أوروبا، جنوب أفريقيا، المغرب، تونس، نيوزيلندا، البرازيل، كندا، وجزر الكاريبي. انطلقت المبادرة عام 1987 ضمن فعاليات عام البيئة في أوروبا ويتم تنظيمها وإدارتها من قبل منظمة التعليم البيئي (FEE).
تساهم هذه البادرة في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة في الشواطئ والمرافئ من خلال معايير صارمة تتعلق بجودة المياه والتعليم والمعلومات البيئية، إدارة البيئة والسلامة وخدمات أخرى. باعتبارها رمز للجودة البيئية، يخدم "العلم الأزرق" كحافز للسلطات المحلية والقطاع الخاص لاتخاذ إجراءات لتحسين المناطق الساحلية بشكل عام وفق المعايير المذكورة أعلاه.
استوعبت جزيرة قبرص، باعتبارها وجهة سياحية حيوية في منطقة المتوسط، استوعبت أهمية هذه الحملة كإحدى وسائل دمج السياحة بشكل أفضل مع البيئة الساحلية. وبمبادرة من منظمة السياحة القبرصية وبالتعاون مع جمعية حماية البيئة البحرية القبرصية (CYMEPA) ومع السلطات المحلية والهيئات الحكومية ذات العلاقة، قامت قبرص بتطبيق حملة العلم الأزرق الأوروبية وأصبحت عضوا كاملا في منظمة التعليم البيئي عام 1995.
في عام 1996، تم منح جائزة "العلم الأزرق الطولاني" لـ11 شاطىء، وفي عام 1997 تم منح 18 شاطىء إضافي جائزة "العلم الأزرق"، 13 جائزة "العلم الأزرق الأوروبي"، و5 جوائز "العلم الأزرق الطولاني". ارتفع منذ ذلك الحين عدد الشواطىء التي نالت جائزة "العلم الأزرق" ليصل إلى 54 عام 2010.
الشواطىء القبرصية التي نالت الجائزة هذا العام هي (عدد شواطئ كل منطقة مذكور بين قوسين):
باراليمني (9): كاباري، أجيا تريادا، لوما، فريسي الأول، فريسي الثاني، فريسي الثالث، بروتاراس ونيسيا لومباردي.
أجيا نابا (14): خليج كونوس، كيرميا، أموس تو كامبوري، جليكي نيرو، بانتاخو، لوكوس تو مانتي، كاتساركا، بيرنيرا، فاثيا جونيا، نيسي، خليج نيسي، لانتا، ماكرونيسوس وأجيا ثيكلا.

56 Cyprus beaches awarded blue flags |
Flags promote sustainable development and environmental education
Fifty six Cyprus beaches have been awarded Blue Flags this year by an international jury, signifying their compliance to stringent environmental regulations.
The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label which has been awarded to over 3,450 beaches and marinas in 41 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean. The initiative was launched in 1987, during the European Year for the Environment, and is coordinated and run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
It contributes towards sustainable development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environment education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services. Being a symbol of environmental quality, the Blue Flag serves as an incentive for local authorities and the private sector to take measures for the overall improvement of the coastal areas in accordance with the above-mentioned criteria.
Cyprus, as a Mediterranean tourism destination, has recognised the importance of this campaign as one way in which tourism can be better integrated with the coastal environment. With the initiative of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) and the cooperation of the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA), the local authorities and the relevant government bodies, Cyprus has introduced the European Blue Flag Campaign and become a full member of the FEE in 1995. In 1996, 11 beaches were awarded "Blue Flag Pennants" and in 1997, 18 more beaches were awarded "Blue Flags", 13 "European Blue Flags" and 5 "Blue Flag Pennants". Since then, the number of Blue Flag beaches has been increasing, reaching 54 in 2010.

Agia Napa (14): Konnos Bay, Kermia, Ammos tou Kambouri, Glyki Nero, Pantachou, Loukkos tou Manti, Katsarka, Pernera, Vathia Gonia, Nissi, Nissi Bay, Lanta, Macronissos and Agia Thekla.
Larnaka (3): Phinikoudes, Kastella and Mckenzie.
Pervolia (1): Faros Beach.
Pentakomo (2): Kalymnos beach-CTO and Governor's Beach.
Pyrgos (2): Aoratoi and Panagies.
Parekklisia (1): Community Beach.
Agios Tychon (7): Santa Barbara, Loures, Vouppa, Aphrodite, Armonia, Onisilos and Castella
Agios Athanasios (1): Miami.
Lemesos (2): Akti Olympion A & B.
Pissouri (1): Pissouri Beach.

مع رفع الستارة عن عرض أوبرا "حكايات هوفمان" (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) من تأليف جاك أوفنباخ من 2 حتى 4 سبتمبر 2011، ينطلق مهرجان أفروديت بافوس للعام الـثالث عشر على التوالي في قلعة العصور الوسطى في بافوس، ويستضيف المهرجان على خشبة المسرح أوبرا براغ للمسرح الوطني. من خلال عرضه للمسرحية الأوبرالية "حكايات هوفمان" يسعى المهرجان لتقديم تجربة لا تنسى للحضور من محبي الموسيقى وتحقيق تطلعات أصدقاء المهرجان في تنظيم أداء فني من المستوى العالمي.
تم عرض أوبرا "حكايات هوفمان" لأول مرة في باريس عام 1881، وذلك بعد بضع أشهر على وفاة مؤلفها واستمرت شهرتها وشعبيتها حتى يومنا الحاضر. يعتبر جاك أوفنباخ من أكبر مؤلفي الموسيقى الشعبية في القرن الـتاسع عشر في أوروبا، وأحد مؤسسي الأوبرا القصيرة أو التمثيلية الموسيقية وأحد رواد المسرح الموسيقي الكوميدي المعاصر.
