Birds of the Panhandle
Fall Hours
Birds of the Panhandle
By Judy Jones  Yellow Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Seteophaga petechia
According to Kenneth D. Seyffert author of Birds of the Texas Panhandle the Yellow Warbler is the third most common warbler species seen here in the Panhandle. The most yellow of all warbler, the male of this species is bright yellow with chestnut streaking on his breast and flank with the female being yellow with olive-green tones on her back and she lacks the streaking on the breast. They nest  in the northern 2/3 of the United States near riparian areas especially willow thickets. In the fall of the year during August and the first part of September they are seen coming through the Texas Panhandle headed for Central and South America for their winter grounds. Listen carefully for their song 'sweet, sweet, sweet I am so sweet'.
