WHAT'S YOUR RECIPE FOR STRENGTH?
May kicks off Older Americans Month, and it is our chance as a nation to recognize the contributions of older Americans. As part of this year's activities, the US Administration on Aging is inviting individuals over 18 to share their "Recipe for Strength" in a national contest. Entries may be a video, photo, poem or essay. Please visit the contest site for more info! Speaking of recipes, we'd like you to share your healthy and nutritious recipes with us. Please e-mail your favorite healthy recipe to Jinn. And here's one for you to try, from the "Easy to Swallow, Easy to Chew Cookbook." We have this recipe book and others available through our lending library. Broccoli Bisque, a delightfully seasoned creamy soup, serves 4 1 medium potato, peeled & chopped 1 small onion, chopped 14 oz of chicken broth or stock 2 cups broccoli florets 1/2 cup fat-free half & half 1/8 teaspoon white pepper 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream In a medium saucepan, combine potato, onion and broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until vegetables are tender. Add broccoli and cook till just tender. Remove from heat. Using a food processor or a handheld immersion blender, process until smooth. Add half-and-half, white pepper and nutmeg. Heat through, but do not boil. Add additional broth or stock if soup is too thick. Add salt and pepper to taste. Top each individual serving with a dollop of sour cream. |

TOSS THOSE OLD MEDICATIONS SAFELY
Many of us are guilty of having dribs & drabs of old meds in our medicine cabinets. Medicines should be disposed of properly once they pass their expiration date--and by "disposed of properly", we don't mean flushing them down the sink or tossing them in the garbage. Bring your expired or no-longer-used medicines to these three expired drug toss events on May 20, 21 and 22, where they'll be handled and disposed of properly!- Thursday, May 20th, 10am-2pm at Our Mother of Sorrows Church (770 Eastern Parkway)
- Friday, May 21st, 10am-2pm at Family Health Center (2215 Portland Ave)
- Saturday, May 22nds, 10am-2pm at Belmont Village Senior Living (4600 Bowling Blvd)
