Dear Friends:

Want to make a difference for everyone in our community living with PD? Get involved! We need volunteers for our 2010 Denim & Diamonds Celebration! This is our largest fundraiser for the year and funds many of the programs and services that benefit people living with Parkinson's disease. There are small tasks and large ones...things you can do before the event and ways you can help the day of the event. Come learn more at a special kick-off party (free food! great company!) at Historic Locust Grove on Thursday, March 18th at 6pm. RSVP by Monday, March 15th, to Kathy Panther at kathy.panther@jhsmh.org or 502-582-7475.
We've just received a great new DVD created especially for newly-diagnosed people with PD and their loved ones. Produced by the Washington State Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, and with a foreword by Dr. C. Everett Koop, Managing Parkinson's: Straight Talk and Honest Hope is a comprehensive guide to maximizing quality of life in the face of this chronic illness. We're happy to send you a free copy of this DVD; please email your name and address with the subject line "Managing PD DVD" and we'll send you one.
Please don't forget to talk to your elected representatives about the legislation related to the National Parkinson's Disease Registry. This is a very important issue, and we encourage you to get involved.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,
Jinn

NEW IN OUR LENDING LIBRARY
We now have a copy of the USA Today Bestseller " Stages of Senior Care: your step-by-step guide to making the best decisions". Written by Paul and Lori Hogan, founders of Home Instead Senior Care, this excellent book helps you - decide if at-home care is the right choice for you or your loved ones,
- evaluate the pros and cons of retirement communities, adult care centers, nonmedical caregivers, assisted living facilities, nursing homes and hospice, and
- determine the costs of senior care options and find helpful support networks.
Because we'd received repeated requests, we also have a copy of the DVD " Awakenings". Based on the acclaimed book by neurologist Oliver Sacks, director Penny Marshall's hit 1990 drama stars Robin Williams as Dr. Malcolm Sayer. Sayer is a neurologist who discovers that the drug L-Dopa can be used to "unlock" patients in a mental hospital from the mysterious sleeping sickness that has left them utterly immobilized. |

PSCKY is now on Facebook! Please "become a fan." Thanks to everyone who's joined up so far! We now have over 180 "fans"...and we welcome your pictures, posts and conversations on our Facebook site.
