Dear Friends:

Parkinson's Unity QuiltWe only have a few more LUNCH spaces left if you want to join us for the special November Lunch & Learn on Deep Brain Stimulation Therapy on Wednesday, November 18th from 11:30-1. RSVP TODAY! We will NOT be able to provide lunch for you (though you may still come to the lecture) if we do not receive your RSVP today. Over 100 people have already RSVP'd. We need to know your name, how many are attending, and whether anyone in your party requires a vegetarian lunch. We have also received word that our friend Judy Murphy will be bringing the touring "Parkinson's Unity Quilt" for display that day; bring your cameras...this is your only chance to see the quilt on its tour of the United States!

We received news last week that our friend Phyllis Lippy has passed away. Our thoughts are with her husband, Bill.

If you do not want to receive this weekly newsletter, please unsubscribe using the links below. If you have news, ideas or suggestions, please email us!
REMINDER: MEDICARE PART D ENROLLMENT OPENING
Part DThe window to sign up for the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan--or to change plans if you're already enrolled--starts on Wednesday, November 15th and extends through December 31st. We strongly encourage everyone to annually review their Medicare Part D plan and see if the plan you had this year will still be the most cost-effective plan for you in 2010. Have you changed medicines this year? Did you hit the dreaded "donut hole" in coverage? Have you just become eligible? You can compare plans online at the Medicare site. If you are a person with Parkinson's, we're here to help you compare plans. Jinn has been helping community members evaluate these plans every year since the founding of the program. You may schedule an in-person or phone appointment with her. While she will not recommend any particular plan, she can help you input your current medications and make sense of the plan benefits.
REGISTER NOW: DIVISION OF MOVEMENT DISORDERS SYMPOSIUM ON NON-MOTOR ASPECTS OF PARKINSON'S--COMING DECEMBER 7th
Our friends at the Division of Movement Disorders cordially invite you to the First Symposium on the Non-Motor Aspects of Parkinson's Disease. While motor aspects of PD are being better controlled pharmacologically and with deep brain stimulation, the cognitive, psychiatric and autonomic aspects are quite challenging to treat. Experts in the field will discuss each of the aspects and current management approaches.
  • Premotor Features of PD (Dr. Litvan)
  • Non-Motor Fluctuations (Dr. Houghton)
  • Cognitive Aspects (Dr. Voorhees)
  • Autonomic Problems (Dr. Ferrara)
  • Anxiety and Depression (Dr. Moore)
  • Gait Problems & Falls (Kathy Paper, PT)
  • Speech Problems (Katie Flerlage, MS, CCC-SLP)
  • Quality of Life (Allied Team)
  • New Clinical Trials (Annette Robinson, RN, BSN, CCRC)
The Symposium will be held at the Rudd Heart & Lung Building on Monday, December 7, 2009 from 12:30-5pm. The program is free, but you must RSVP. You can call the Division of Movement Disorders directly at 852-1990, or you may contact us and we'll be happy to mail you a flier for this event that includes a registration form.
