2009 Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference
September 1st is the deadline for the reduced-rate registration fee for the 2009 Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference in Rome, Georgia. We've heard from a few folks in our area who are thinking of going to this two and a half day educational experience. If you plan to go and might be able to offer someone else a ride, we'd like to hear from you. If you think you might go, if you could ride with others, let us know, and we'll try to connect "drivers" and "riders".

Medicare Part B (outpatient benefits) covers your seasonal flu shot, as well as vaccinations to prevent pneumonia and hepatitis B. Part B also covers other immunizations if you have been exposed to a disease or condition (like a tetanus shot if you step on a nail or a rabies shot if you're bitten by a dog). To learn more about the difference between vaccines covered by Part B and Part D, see Medicare Interactive.

PDF plans to archive the series on their website for those who can't phone in or join live on-line.

COOL PLACES ON THE WEB
Do you have questions about alternative medicines and treatments? Some herbal medicines (such as Kava) can interact with PD meds. We encourage you to ALWAYS talk to your health care providers before beginning ANY herbal supplement.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is the federal government's lead agency for scientific research on complementary and alternative medicine.

Also, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has started an excellent new website on senior-specific health issues. We found the exercise stories particularly inspiring, and hope you'll consider submitting your own!
