Oh how the political arena brings out the rightness in people, including myself. My husband and I are better off not discussing the campaign, which proves that two people can love each other without having aligned political views and disagree without disrespecting.
Of course his views are from the days when cave men drug their women by the hair and beat their chests. No, my husband is not a cave man, but it just goes to show that as progressive somebody can seem on the outside, you can't change people at their core simply by speaking words. They need to have life altering experiences for that to happen.
How can we help others have life altering experience? Just act each day from your core values, whether you are JoAnn the plumber or Joe the nurse. Speak with your actions.
As Sarah joined the McCain campaign, it brought out raw nerves, double standards and judgements I feel are reserved only for women.
I did feel a bit insulted by McCain's choice. Not necessarily because it was Sarah Pahlin, but rather because it felt more like a stunt in a circus act. Which brings me to the disgust I have for the campaign process itself.
As I spend much time in my corporate job reducing waste and improving business processes, I have, in my logical mind, cut the cost of the presidential campaign by millions and reduced the time span by months. Yet I have to chuckle at the politics I find at work. Is there no escape?
Whether you're JoAnn the plumber or Joe the nurse, I don't much care about your chromosomes as long as you do your job well and your actions represent core values of love and equality. Now I'm chuckling, A LOVING PLUMBER? Well not exactly what they would put in their yellow page ad, but if him or her is respectful and nice I put them in the LOVING category.
A few weeks ago MBL conducted a poll asking participants to rank how much they admired Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Pahlin. Here's a link to the
results.
In my opinion the poll did not show one clear favorite, so I believe it revealed that each of these women, in their own right, have earned their place whether or not you share their views or hold any admiration for them.
In conclusion here are the comments from the poll:
Good poll, I'm interested in seeing the results.
Although Michelle Obama is not one of our candidates, she represents the keen intelligence, grace and firmness every woman should exude. Hillary, wow!
Mrs. Palin: honest, hardworking, loves family, country, herself. Mrs. Clinton: in it for self fulfillment but is strong. Mrs. Obama: crowd follower
Reminds me of Wonder Woman (Sarah Pahlin)
I admire Michelle and Barack as a couple. They make a great team. Hillary is smart. I don't have enough info on Sarah yet.
Do not have any admiration for Palin. Only ranked her because I had to.
Michelle has vision, strength, and conviction.
Hillary's got brains, moxy, and compassion.
Sarah...well, I actually do not admire her.
