Greetings!
A month or so ago, my seven-year-old headed off to Second Grade, and I found myself nostalgic, delighted at her delight in school, and just a little envious. How wonderful to have your job be to play and learn and grow, surrounded by friends and teachers, with fresh stimulation around every corner.
On second thought I realized, scratch the envy; those qualities describe my job as accurately as they describe her classroom.
So, in true Second Grade fashion, we brought in some stuff to share. Below you will find offers, favorites, and recommendations designed to provide opportunities for play and learning. They include:
- Upcoming Events: TED comes to Albany!
- A Special Offer: Performance Coaching for you and your team
- Recommended Resources: Articles and sites of interest
Enjoy, and happy back-to-school.

Inspiring Speakers in Our Own Backyard
I've said it before, and it's worth saying again: If you haven't yet discovered TED.com, you are missing out on one of the great resources of our time. At this free site, you can see leading thinkers in the areas of technology, entertainment and design share their thoughts in 18-minute segments. Recorded at the elite TED conferences now held around the globe, these talks are a veritable cornucopia of inspiration, information and provocation. But it gets better! Now TED has expanded by allowing individuals to sponsor their own local TED conferences, and Jeff Gaines has led the charge in the Capital District with TEDx Albany. We are thrilled to announce that Kat will be one of the featured speakers at this event on November 4th, 2010 in the Lewis A. Swyer Theatre of The Egg. For more information, including a list of speakers and registration instructions, go to TEDxAlbany. I predict that TEDx will grow into one of the most anticipated and valued Capital District events, so do yourself a favor and join us. In the meantime, get a taste of TED online. Here is one of our current favorite talks by Sheena Iyengar on the Art of Choosing. |

Connecting with Colleagues, Yourself and Your Brilliance
Speaking of TED, another recently featured talk was given by Steven Johnson, discussing where good ideas come from. He debunks the myth of the solitary, Eureka moment, and confirms what we improvisers have long believed, that innovation comes from the confluence of ideas and experiences clashing with each other, being adapted and informed by others' experiences and different mindsets.
If you are looking to enhance your creativity and problem-solving skills, take advantage of our current coaching offer. Kat is providing FREE 30-minute coaching sessions for groups or individuals that will help you:
- assess your strengths
- adopt practices to increase risk taking, lateral thinking and collaboration
- enjoy your work and your colleagues more completely.
