Notice from JIV
The Jamul/Dulzura Union School District Board recieved a notice from the JIV on Saturday March 10, 2012. The notice is dated March 14, 2012 and states the tribe has prepared a "Draft Environmental Evaluation". The evaluation will be posted in the Rancho San Diego County Library branch starting on March 14th and be available for comments through April 30th. The tribe has also planned a "public hearing/workshop" on April 5th at Cottonwood Golf Club from 4 - 8pm.

Please attend the Jamul/Dulzura Planning Group meeting on Tuesday, March 13th at 7:30pm at the Oak Grove Middle School Library. Steve Davis from Summit Project Management will be presenting a summary overview of the proposed casino project and environmental document, and an updated timeline of the next steps in the process.

Five years ago, on March 10, 2007, the residents of Jamul came together to protest the eviction of Karen Toggery and Walter Rosales from their houses and land. The members of the Jamul Indian Village at the time, threw Karen and Walter and the Thing family off the tribal role because they did not support building a casino on their sacred land. Then evicted Karen and Walter from their homes for which they have documentation stating the property was theirs, handed down from generations before.
Then the JIV tribal leadership agreed not destroy the homes with the County of San Diego and the San Diego Sheriff's department until the matter could be investigated. Two days later their homes and sacred burial ground were demolished.
Please watch the slide show and videos below. Karen and Walter's attorney is still fighting for their rights. Their case is at the Appeallate court in Washington, D.C.
