Jamulians Against the Casino |
5 years ago - March 10, 2007
Five years ago, on March 10, 2007, the residents of Jamul came together to protest the eviction of Karen Toggery and Walter Rosales from their houses and land. The members of the Jamul Indian Village at the time, threw Karen and Walter and the Thing family off the tribal role because they did not support building a casino on their sacred land. Then evicted Karen and Walter from their homes for which they have documentation stating the property was theirs, handed down from generations before.
Then the JIV tribal leadership agreed not destroy the homes with the County of San Diego and the San Diego Sheriff's department until the matter could be investigated. Two days later their homes and sacred burial ground were demolished.
Please watch the slide show and videos below. Karen and Walter's attorney is still fighting for their rights. Their case is at the Appeallate court in Washington, D.C.
