As I was getting ready for work today the bathroom mirror provided an unanticipated lesson in Christianity. Steam from the shower had clouded the mirror causing my reflection to be nothing but a blur. As I wiped away the steam, my image became clear and I was able to continue, but in that moment a thought came to me.
How does my "mirror" reflect Christ?
As I go about my day, are others able to see Jesus in me or do they see something less. Is His image blurred by my words and actions or is He reflected perfectly so that others see Him in me? I realized that my attitude could be clouding my mirror keeping His love from reflecting to others.
There could be other issues with my mirror as well. His image could be poorly reflected if my mirror is turned away from Him. Am I keeping myself turned toward Him by reading my Bible, praying, worshiping? Do I spend time developing my relationship with Him so that I am constantly turned toward Him? Others may see a glimpse of Jesus in me but miss His true reflection if I'm not looking directly at Him in my daily walk.
What if my mirror is dirty? What if I have something in the way, keeping me from a pure relationship with Christ? It's important that I examine myself daily to make sure there is nothing that would keep Christ from being the center of my life. Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalms 51:7 A pure heart will reflect perfectly where a dirty heart will not.
Finally, I thought, what if my mirror were broken, or turned completely away from Him? No one would be able to see Christ in me. Then it occurred to me that my mirror had been broken before He found me. He put the pieces back together and turned me toward Him so that His light shone brightly, directly, clearly reflected in me. I need to protect my relationship so that the mirror will never be broken again. Phillipians 4:8-9
How is your mirror today? Does it need to be wiped down, cleaned up, redirected or repaired? Are others able to see Christ reflected clearly in you? If so, just turn your eyes upon Jesus and let Him polish you up as only He can do.

Some Parting Fun....

A Christian middle school for girls was faced with a unique problem. A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirrors leaving dozens of little lip prints.
Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called several of the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the custodian. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every day.
To demonstrate how much work they were making for the custodian, she asked him to clean one of the mirrors while the girls watched.
The custodian took a long-handled brush, dipped it into the nearest toilet, and proceeded to scrub the mirror.
From that day on, the problem of lip prints on the mirrors was completely eliminated.
