                  | | Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter |
 | Dear ,      The Bible is, among many things, a guidebook for our daily life. It gives us many examples of things we should do and characteristics we should have. Following the guidelines set for us in the Bible can help us live a more complete Christian life. For the first series of characteristics, look at the August 16th newsletter;  Here are a few more examples of characteristics of a Christian found in the Bible.
Kindness is a friendly, good-natured, harmonious attitude toward others. Kindness is another quality that can help you make and maintain friendships. An example of kindness is found in Colossians 3:12. "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering."Optimism is having a positive outlook on life. Optimistic people know that everything will turn out for the best to the glory of God. Optimism is mentioned in Romans 8:28. "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Tolerance is accepting other people and their beliefs and actions even if you don't agree with them. The Bible talks about tolerance in Romans 14:13. "Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way." Thankfulness is an attitude of being appreciative and grateful for all circumstances. Thankfulness is mentioned in Psalm 116:17. "I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord." Confidence is the assurance that God is with you in whatever you do or say. The Bible talks about confidence in Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Dependability is being reliable and trustworthy to do what you say you will do. Luke 14:27 mentions dependability. "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple."

 |  Grace | |
| | | In Store or On-Line |

We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and pre-meal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, "Do you believe in grace?" who could say no? Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by  race? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God's grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let's make certain grace gets you.
Use "GRACE" for your next Sunday school class or small group study. DVD-Based study includes:

 | Some Parting Fun....  | | A pastor was leaving his area and was saying farewell to his congregation at the Church doors for the last time. He shook the hand of an elderly lady as she walked out.     She said "Your successor won't be as good as you."     "Nonsense", said the pastor, in a flattered tone.     "No, really", said the old lady, "I've been here under five different ministers, and each new one has been worse than the last."     |
