Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

How many times have you seen a bumper sticker that states "I Love X"? It could be NYC, Pomeranian Dogs,Siamese Cats, Flying, Fishing, Chocolate, etc., How often have you heard someone say "I just love ....... " - fill in the blank?
We all know what love is, don't we? But how do we explain it to someone? For example, if you were going to tell someone who had never heard of love what it meant, how it looked, or how to know it if they saw it, how would you explain it?
In our culture we tend to associate "Love" with those things that bring us satisfaction, gratification, or warm and fuzzy feelings. We may "Love" Ice Cream but when it comes to expressing true love to our friends and families we often fall short.
In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul captures the true essence of love. The love Paul describes values:
- Giving over getting
- Commitment over feelings
- The long haul over the short term
The scripture is clear. You can see that love is evident in patience, kindness, humility, forgiveness, integrity, and ongoing perseverance. This kind of love survives and stands the tests of time and tribulations.

| A man was going to the county fair one day with a pig under one arm, a chicken under the other arm, and a basket on his head. He came to a crossroads and didn't know which way to turn. While he stood there deciding, a pretty young woman approached him, heading the same direction.
"Please, ma'am, I'm on the way to the county fair. Can you tell me which way to go?"
"Yes," she replied. "I'm on my way there, too. We'll go right down this way about a mile, turn left about a mile and a half, left again about a mile and we're right there."
He said, "Wait a minute... down here, turn left and left again? Couldn't we save a lot of time by walking through these woods?"
She replied, "Yes, we could. But I couldn't walk through those woods with you. Why... you might try to kiss me!"
"Listen," he said, "how could I possibly kiss anybody with a pig under one arm, a chicken under one arm and a basket on my head?"
"Well," she replied, "you could put that chicken on the ground, turn the basket upside down over the chicken, and I could hold that little bitty ole pig."
